West Texas Energy Consortium Gathers Experts for Discussion on Economic Futures

Oil & Gas Industry Still Vital in West Texas

Energy is the engine of the economy. That’s true nationwide, statewide — and especially locally. Leaders in the oil and gas industry along with community leaders, educators, landowners and students will gather in San Angelo, May 7, 2015 for the WTxEC Power In Partnership, oil and — now especially — natural gas remain an integral part of the West Texas economy.

The West Texas Energy Consortium (WTxEC) has gathered 3 of the state’s top experts for a discussion on two very important topics surrounding the future of West Texas; water and oil & gas. Texas Water Technology Accelerator Senior Advisor and CEO, Richard Seline, will discuss the current Water Technology Teams comprised of the State's best academic, industry, entrepreneurial, public sector, and non-profit brain-power focusing on traditional, non-traditional and innovative technologies. He’ll also share the expertise, knowledge and resources that are responding to our current water crisis and demonstrate how these Texas partnerships are positioning us with water technology to better serve the state.

Bernard Weinstein, Ph.D., is an economist and associate director of Southern Methodist University’s Maguire Energy Institute. He’s written numerous books and articles, with a focus on the economic and policy aspects of energy development. His work has been published by published by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times, among other newspapers, magazines and journals. Dr. Weinstein, takes a look at "Will Falling Oil Prices Derail the Shale Revolutionand America's Prospects for Energy Independence".

Allen Gilmer of DrillingInfo, Inc. will discuss what the drilling industry is saying about current layoffs in the energy industry, the long-term industry outlook and a rebound in market prices.Taking a look at the US Oil Production Forecast, Mr. Gilmer, will discuss the depth of information that is more than simple rig counts. He will look at the Permian Basin drop in activity. How has that impacted vertical wells? Has it impacted vertical wells more heavily than horizontals? What does this mean for West Texas continued increase in production?

Nancy Tootle with Shell Oil will also be introducing a group from Angelo State University that Shell will be working with on several projects in the future. Come hear about what the industry has planned in the region and where our membership will focus its efforts in the next two years with regards to economics, jobs, education and industry needs.
