Job Description:
The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering seeks highly-motivated and articulate Engineering Futures Mentors who will work with freshmen to offer academic support, information, skill development, and advocacy. Mentors will help students form good study habits, solve problems, and meet the demands of college life while exploring what it means to be an engineer. Mentors will encourage freshmen in furtherexploring their chosen discipline, and assist them through college-transition issues, using a framework of provided material and resources.The goal of this program is to increase retention of women and first-generation students in engineering majors. Mentors are sought for the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiate and maintain communications with assigned mentees
- Conduct outreach including special campaigns to encourage mentees via text, email, or phone
- Provide one-on-one peer mentoring sessions to mentees via phone or video conference
- Initiate 5 meetings with each mentee per semester
- Track and record meeting summaries
- Serve as a resource and proactively communicate with mentees to help retian them within engineering
- Encourage exploration of engineering majors and college success activities
- Provide reports to supervisors
- Participate in program implementation meetings and provide continuous improvement feedback
- Attend regular trainings
- Participate in training on first-year transitions issues and related material (Be available May 7-11 and August 13-15 for training)
- Other duties as assigned

Requirements
- Must be a junior, senior, or 4+1 Fulton Schools of Engineering student
- Must be able to commit to mentoring in both the falland springsemesters
- Be in good academic standing
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with diverse groups/students
- Evidence of extensive knowledge of and ability to proactively navigate Fulton Schools of Engineering and ASU resources/programs
- Evidence of effective verbal and communication skills
- Prior experience or current involvement in a leadership role at ASU and/or in the community
- Evidence of engagement in engineering activities beyond the undergraduate curriculum
- Evidence of high level of organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks
- Demonstrated ability to act with a high level of professionalism due to access to student information
- Experience presenting to small and large groups
- Demonstrated skill in customer service, problem solving, and relationship management
