JOB TITLE: Digital Programme Manager

  1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
  • Leading the planning, implementation and delivery of our digitaltransformation programme.
  • To maintain the programme’s schedules, resolve problems whilst mitigating programme risks, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Establishing robust methodologies, providing a consistency of approach in the delivery of current and future activity.
  • Management responsibilities of with those that fall under the Programme Manager’s remit through a matrix management structure.
  • Developing relationships with key decision-makers and opinion-shapers across the organisation as well as external suppliers / partners.
  • Providing regular updates on project status, accounting for project costs, time and budget.
  • Champion the development of Samaritans digital products, platforms and services internally
  • Supporting staff and volunteers in understanding best use and value of digital technologies for greater impact and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain an effective programme of internal and external communications to inform and engage stakeholders and audiences with digital transformation activity.
  1. POSITION IN ORGANISATION
  • Reports into: Executive Director of Transition.
  • Works closely with:Volunteers and staff at all levels with Samaritans.
  • Liaises with: Members of an external Advisory Panel, contractors and third party agencies.
  1. SCOPE OF JOB
  • To manage the successful development and implementation of Samaritans digital transformation programme.
  1. DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
  • Supports the CEO, Deputy CEO and Executive Director of Transition with all major initiatives related to digital work on behalf of and for the organisation.
  • Line and matrix management responsibility to ensure delivery.
  • Covers for the Executive Director of Transition as required.
  • Is an ambassador for organisation on all digital related work.
  • Responsible for planning and controlling programme budget.
  1. QUALIFICATIONS
  • Educated to degree level.
  • Recognised project/ programme management qualification e.g. Prince2 or MSP.
  • Additional training in Agile development or SCRUM methodologies is desirable but not essential.
  1. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Analytical and problem solving -experience in the design and development of technical solutions to simplify and improve complex business processes.
  • Procurement- experience of design and implementation of effective procurement processes to secure digital services.
  • Commercial awareness- ability to interrogate tender returns and assess competitiveness alongside contract negotiation expertise.
  • Programme Management- ability to integrate and adapt programme management methodologies to meet the skills and needs of an organisation.
  • Digital change- significant experience of leading major digital change projects or programmes.
  • Technical expertise developed in the digital sector and knowledge of current digital landscape and emerging trends.
  • User ex/ co-creation- appreciation of how to ensure that user experience can be integrated into the service development process applying the principles of co-creation, market analysis and segmentation.
  • Third sector- appreciation of the role and context of Samaritans services.
  • Volunteering- appreciation and understanding of volunteer service delivery and ability to establish participative processes
  • Mental Health-appreciation of the context in which Samaritans services are delivered; those that use our support; and the role that digital services can and do play in service delivery.
  • Professional network-ability to build and maintain credible relationships with Samaritans strategic partners.
  • Supplier management – demonstrable experience of managing third party suppliers, including pro bono work to develop effective digital solutions.

KEY DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning, implementing and execution of Samaritans Digital Transformation Programme.
  • Establishing effective programme governance.
  • Developing, managing and monitoring programme budget, priorities, KPIS and resourcing.
  • Issuing progress reports and ensuring deadlines are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Act as key programme interface between senior volunteers, executive, staff and suppliers.
  • Matrix management of a Digital Technical & Support Team.
  • Line management of Data & Insight Project Manager.
  • Monitoring associated budgets and allocation of resources.
  • Proactive management and mitigation of programme risk.
  • Maintaining programme schedules and issuing progress reports in line with programme governance.

General Duties of a Samaritans’ Staff Member

  • Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the General Office as appropriate.
  • Participate, as appropriate, in Staff forums and Meetings.
  • Adhere to Samaritans’ Polices and Procedures that are in effect from time to time.
  • Represent the General Office appropriately across the movement and Samaritans to the wider community as appropriate.

Special Circumstances

  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, including travel across UK and Ireland is essential
