JOB TITLE:CCAS GP Clinical Assessor

SALARY:£300 per 3 hour session (pro rata if fewer hours worked)

JOB SUMMARY:To assess referrals electronically for first outpatient appointments to secondary care from GPs or other sources. To liaise with and offer advice if necessary to GPs, PH and secondary care clinicians around best practice, prioritising alternative community based agreed pathways as they emerge. To ensure referrals are dealt with promptly and fully address the choice guide. Work with the low priority treatment policy of NCL sector.

LOCATION:CCAS offices, South Camden Centre For Health, 154 Drummond Street, NW1 3HP.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • Fully GMC registered with a licence to practise.
  • JCPTGP or PMETB Certificate of completion of vocational training.
  • On the Camden (or other local CCG’s) Performers’ List.
  • Membership of a recognised UKdefence society.
  • MRCGP or equivalent.
  • Respected, experienced and committed clinician.
  • Good grounding in evidence based medicine and able to demonstrate clear understanding of best practice guidelines, protocols, NICE,CKS, locally agreed guidelines etc.
  • Good and up to date knowledge of local services.
  • Ability to recognise and act upon cases that require priority referral (knowledge of clinical pathways).
  • Good interpersonal skills with sensitivity.
  • Teaching / mentoring skills recognising the strong educational/ mentoring role of the post.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with other agencies.
  • Effective verbal and writing communication skills.
  • The ability to give feedback to colleagues and others sensitively, clearly and effectively.
  • Understanding of Commissioning and its drivers
  • Flexibility (including ability to offer cover if required) and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use I.T.
  • Current user of e-Referrals.

DUTIES:

  • To review and forward referrals from GP colleagues under agreed timescales.
  • To contact both electronically and by phone, GPs and discuss those referrals requiring follow up / suggestions of alternative pathways.
  • To identify and advise the referring clinician those referrals excluded under agreed criteria.
  • To deal with referrals in line with best evidence e.g. NICE and CKS guidance.
  • To provide support / mentoring to colleagues as need arises.
  • To be aware of and act upon and follow Good Medical Practice as currently set out by the GMC.
  • To participate in audit activities and data collection, including rejections.
  • To participate in complaints procedures.
  • To participate in the analysis and reporting of significant events whether clinical or administrative.
  • To ensure knowledge of national best practice is maintained and updated.
  • To ensure compliance with clinical governance.
  • To liaise with the business / administrative team running CCASliaising over referrals for excluded procedures and services.
  • To liaise with CCAS Admin on the e-Referrals system and local choices.
  • To undergo regular appraisal.
  • Attend CCAS clinical meetings.
