Details Specific to the Post

Background and Context

The Faculty of Business, Law and Politics comprises of two schools –

  • Hull University Business School (HUBS) is a leading UK business school dedicated to the development of responsible leadership for a complex world.
  • The School of Law and Politics (SLP) integrating legal scholarship with political, legislative and governance agendas in a modern, global context.

The Faculty is committed to achieving the very highest standards in all that we do and is supported by dedicated teams of Professional Services staff providing a wide range of administrative and support services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post

Apprentices work with colleagues within one of the following teams within HUBS Professional Services:

  • Dean’s Executive Office
  • Business Engagement
  • International and Engagement
  • Student HubProgrammes Team
  • Quality Learning and Teaching
  • Centre for Professional Success
  • Research and Enterprise

The apprentice will be based at Hull campus.

Duties include meeting and greeting customers, dealing with incoming and outgoing mail, usage of office equipment / telephone / photocopying / electronic filing systems.

IT related tasks include use of email and diaries (Microsoft Outlook), spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), word-processing (Microsoft Word) and the university’s student information system.

Apprentices work with student records (including exam results), processing client details / filing records and responding to student enquiries.

Apprentices are also required to service hospitality facilities and support faculty and university events (e.g. graduation ceremonies and open days).

Apprentices work flexibly and collegiately within a changing and adaptive environment both within the School, with other partners across the University and externally. This may include occasional weekend working (e.g. assisting at School Open Days).

Training Outcomes

Apprentices will undertake an apprenticeship qualification scheme.

Apprentices will be supported to gain the level and range of administrative experience required to successfully complete their apprenticeship qualification scheme.

Additionally, the post holder will be required to:

  • Fulfil the employees’ duties described in the University’s health and safety policies andco-operate with the health and safety arrangements in place within the department. May be required to undertake specific health and safety roles on request e.g. Display screen equipment assessor, departmental safety officer, fire warden
  • Show a commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices This includes undertaking mandatory equality and diversity training
  • Comply with University regulations, policies and procedures
