Job Title:Associate Professorin Computer Science (2Posts)

Contract Status: This post is available from 26Feb 2018 or thereafter as soon as possible and will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham,Ningbo, China for a period of up to five years. This contractmay be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement.

Hours of work: Full-time, 36.25 hours per week

Responsible to:Head of School of Computer Science (UNNC)

Job Outline:

The position holder will teach core undergraduate and postgraduate computer science subjects, develop undergraduate and postgraduate computer science curriculums, perform world-class research and publish academic papers in prestigious international journals and conferences, supervise PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, obtain research grants and perform administrative duties as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Research

  • To undertake ongoing original research in the candidate’s specialist field.
  • To publish research in peer reviewed publications.
  • To seek internal and external research funding.
  • To produce research suitable for dissemination to conferences, workshops and seminars (both national and international).
  • To forge collaborative research links within and outside the University.
  • To undertake student research supervision.
  • To contribute fully to the University’s research activities.
  • To help create an atmosphere which is conducive to good research.

Teaching

  • To prepare and deliver lectures, seminars and tutorials at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • To participate in the assessments for initial and higher degrees and diplomas of the University and to act as invigilator in such examinations as required.
  • To contribute to course and curriculum development and design, including course management, where appropriate.
  • To support and comply with the University’s teaching quality assurance standards and procedures.

Administration

  • To liaise, as appropriate, with academic and administrative colleagues at the University’s Nottingham and Malaysia campuses.
  • To perform administrative roles related to teaching and research, as determined by the Head of School.
  • To act as a personal tutor for both undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • To take part in and contribute to staff development activities consistent with continuous professional development.
  • To ensure compliance with health and safety requirements in all aspects of work.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post.

Person Specification:

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ Education /
  • PhD in computer science or closely related subjects such as engineering and mathematical sciences.
/
  • BSc or Msc in Computer Science and Information Technology related subject areas.
  • Qualification in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education or equivalent.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies.

Skills/Training /
  • Excellent general knowledge of Computer Science.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
  • An established track record in research and scholarship at an international level.
/
  • Strong research track record in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, modelling and visualization, machine learning and computer vision, big data and data mining, optimization and operations research.

Experience /
  • Extended experience to teach, assess and develop undergraduate and postgraduate computer science programmes in English.
  • Excellent publication record and strong research leadership.
  • Research interests and activities in line with, and complementing the School’s research activities.

  • Experience in supervising postgraduate students and undergraduate projects.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching skills.
