Work-Related Learning Coach

Reports to: Student Services Manager

Pay Scale Band 5, points 22 – 25 (£18,311 - £20,255 fte), actual salary £15,041.89 - £16,608.95

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, term time plus two weeks.

Key purpose of role:

All students at EN need to be prepared for the world of work. The Work-Related Learning Coach will work under the direction of the Student Services Manager to meet with, and guide, students into finding work placements, taking part in work-related learning activities and preparing materials to help them in their progression into work after they leave EN. The post holder will be part of the College’s Student Service Team and will assist with any other administrative work where necessary.

Main responsibilities:

The post holder will be responsible for:

1.  Being the main point(s)of contact for work placements and work-related learning at EN for students to guide them towards opportunities for work placements and work-related learning opportunities including meeting with them individually.

2.  Seeking and securing opportunities for our students to develop their work-related learning skills including promoting the positive reputation of EN in the wider business world. This will include calling employers to ask and persuade them to support work placements.

3.  Working under the direction of the Student Services Manager to organise a programme of events and opportunities to support the employability objectives of the College and students in their work-related learning.

4.  Working under the direction of the Student Services Manager (SSM) to organise and facilitate mini-workshops delivering employability skills to support the employability objectives of the College and students in their work-related learning.

5.  Liaising with teaching staff to develop links between the curriculum and work-related learning opportunities to ensure all students at EN are given the opportunity to develop work-related skills.

6.  Accessing the Norfolk County Council Work Placement database to confirm that work placement settings have been suitably risk assessed for EN students and, if necessary, carrying out risk assessments with support from the Health and Safety Adviser and Student Services Manager on work place settings in a timely and effective way where risk assessments are not available to ensure EN students are healthy and safe in the work place.

7.  Sending out communications including emails, letters or online communication through the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) for students, teachers, parents/guardians and employers to complete and return to College in a timely manner such as permission slips, job descriptions, health and safety information, additional learning needs and medical information as appropriate.

8.  Maintaining central records of work-related learning opportunities and adding records of work-related learning to individual student records to measure the impact and level of work-related learning taking place cross-college.

9.  Making recommendations and providing suggestions for ways to improve the student work-related learning experience including supporting the Student Services Manager to evaluate the impact of individual work placements and other activities.

10.  Ensuring that the Schools Liaison, Marketing and Admissions Manager is made aware of all work-related learning opportunities to ensure that internal and external communications are maximised and that opportunities for positive publicity are used.

11.  Being the main point of contact for liaising with a wide range of outside agencies including employers and career advisors and establishing and maintaining ongoing professional relationships with external agencies and individuals.

12.  Under the direction of the Student Services Manager you will also be required to assist with any other duties related to the support of students as a member of the Student Services Team at the appropriate level for the role by being a welcoming and courteous member of the Team.

13.  Efficiently and accurately carrying out such administrative tasks as are required to support the monitoring and reporting on students’ progress, using computerised information systems.

14.  Any other reasonable duties within own sphere of knowledge and competence as requested by the Student Services Manager or Principal.

Staff must be aware of the College’s procedures for raising concerns aboutchildren's welfareand must report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead without delay. The post holder will also:

1.  Contribute to the College’s Quality Assurance processes as required.

2.  Participate in the College’s Staff Professional Review and Development Scheme as required and attend training and development as appropriate to the role.

3.  Work within the guidelines and policy and procedure requirements laid down by College policies in such matters as Safeguarding, Health and Safety, Risk Management and Equality and Diversity.

4.  Demonstrate day to day commitment to the College’s Core values of Excellence, Care, Diversity and Integrity

5.  The post holder will be required to carry out such reasonable additional duties as may from time to time be determined by the College Principal

6.  This job specification is subject to annual review by the line manager. Any changes in substance or interpretation will only be implemented after consultation with the post holder.

Health and Safety Responsibilities of all staff:

1.  Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 it is the responsibility of all individual employees to take care of their own health and safety at work, and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. This includes co-operating with management in complying with health and safety obligations, particularly by reporting promptly any defects, risks or potential hazards.

2.  Report any incidents, accidents and near misses to line manager/H&S Adviser in accordance with EN Policy.

3.  Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) provided for his/her safety is maintained and used appropriately and that any problems are reported immediately to his/her line manager.

4.  Report any health concerns to line manager, H&S Adviser or HR Team which may be work related or which may affect his/her ability to do their job safely.

5.  Attend all statutory and essential H&S training as designated by the H&S Adviser and line manager.

6.  Comply with College and departmental H&S procedures relevant to his/her particular area and systems of work including emergency procedures.
