The Outward Bound Trust

The Outward Bound Trust is an educational charity providing adventure-based, outdoor learning for young people from six centres across the UK.

The Fundraising department currently raises around £7m a year to support the work of The Outward Bound Trust, predominantly to cover the cost of bursary supported places for disadvantaged young people to attend our personal development courses and towards capital (building project) requirements across the Trust’s centres.

Funds are raised from high net worth individuals, corporate organisations, charitable trusts and foundations and through high quality events. The majority of the Fundraising Department is based in Waterloo, London, while our Trusts and Foundations function is based at the Head Office in Hackthorpe, Cumbria.

Our Board of Trustees is chaired by HRHThe Duke of York. Our Patron is HRHThe Duke of Edinburgh. Both are heavily involved in the Charity’s work.

The Development Team

As a new department of the Fundraising team, it is the responsibility of the Development Team to grow the current pool of Major and Corporate Donors, through the use of both highly targeted and wealth-based campaigns, via email and post and through the use of events.

The Development Team, working closely alongside the Trust’s marketing team, will oversee campaigns of the wider Fundraising Team, including the look and feel of general appeals and communications to Individuals, Corporates and Trusts & Foundations, as well specific brands surrounding fundraising events. The Development Executive will join a Research Executive, and report in to the Head of Development.
