We’re serious about our work supporting people with a learning disability and campaigning for a more equal society for the 1.4 million people with a learning disability in the UK andtheir familiesand carers. We’re looking for a like-minded PR officer with bags of experience and energy to join our successful team at animportanttime for Mencap.

This is anexcitingand varied role, which will involve working closely with teams across the charity. With a nose for a good story and experience at building relationships with key media, you will have a proven track record in securing on-message national and regional coverage.

A confident communicator, you will maximise opportunities in the news agenda, write attention-grabbing copy to tight deadlines, successfully pitch stories and provide media advice to colleagues at every level.

  • Excellent communicator with a high standard of written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability and desire to interact with a diverse range of groups

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with key external and internal contacts

Experience:
  • A strong track record of success in generating coverage in a variety of media with the ability to understand the specific needs and expectationsof different media audiences
  • Experience of promoting projects to a national audience and securing quality media coverage
  • Experience of organising media events and photo calls
  • Experience of successfully managing internal or external clients
  • Crisis or reputation management experience
  • Experience of working within the voluntary sector
  • Experience of working in a large, geographically diverse organisation
