HEAD CARETAKER

Hours of Work: / Day Shift: / 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Afternoon Shift: / 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Principal Duties: / 1. / Assume a leadership role in providing Facility Services to the school
2. / Ensure the day to day operations are effective and efficient by instructing, delegating, and overseeing the work of the Caretaking staff
3. / Develop and maintain strong working relationships through effective communications with school administration, staff, student, public and Area Supervisor
4. / Flush water systems of school and log
5. / Perform grounds and playground equipment inspection. Perform any necessary duties and log performance
6. / Represent Facility department in joint Health and Safety yearly inspections if required
7. / Represent Facility department in Fire inspections
8. / Opens/Secure school and disarm alarms and checks buildings for heat/light/vandalism
9. / Grass cutting/snow removal, outside grounds maintenance (ie. hedge and tree trimming, brush and litter removal)
10. / Inspect heating/cooling and ventilation systems and perform regular maintenance. Filter changes; maintain boiler/mechanical logs, boiler chemical treatment, and maintenance of pumps, motors, belt changes and compressors. Lubricate and oil HVAC equipment/Belts.
11. / Minor plumbing/electrical repairs including replacement of ballasts where applicable (120 voltage). Log electrical work performed in Electrical Log
12. / Ensure a working inventory of all supplies and cleaning materials and order material ( e.g. batteries, emergency lights, bulbs)
13. / Report health & safety concerns to appropriate Area Supervisor
14. / Respond to emergency calls
15. / Communicate with Board officials regarding any rental/outside use of the building
16. / Roof inspection and clearing drains and cleaning of debris
17. / Performs any and all inventory and logs necessary
18. / Keep current with computer building automation systems and Ebase.
19. / Grounds/Fire/Snow removal logs/grass cutting/ water flushing/ well water logs
20. / Clean washrooms, floors, walls, fixtures, windows, chalkboards, vacuum carpets, etc
21. / Collect and remove garbage to outside bins
22. / Remove recycling from central location to outside bin.
23. / Graffiti removal
24. / Move and set up furniture and equipment -- desks, chairs, cafeteria tables classroom equipment, etc.
25. / Use various tools and equipment to make minor repairs -- ladders, hand trucks, dollies, saws, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, etc.
26. / Board up broken windows
27. / Ensure compliance with WHMIS and Fire code regulations (request required safety equipment)
28. / Scrub, wax and seal floors, decant liquids using proper PPE equipment
Qualifications: / 1. / Successfully completed all the requirements of the Caretaking Services Training Programme as contained in Appendix “E” of the Collective Agreement.
2. / Physically capable.
3. / Satisfactory and reliable employment record.
4. / Able to assume responsibility in leading and directing Caretaking Staff to maintain required standards.
5. / Skilled, competent and efficient re: Housekeeping, heating and ventilation systems, building and grounds maintenance.
6. / Must be able to read and write English.

CARETAKER

NOTE: / Please be advised that when posting for this position, you may be contacted to replace a Head Caretaker in any school, for coverage purposes. You must report to the Head Caretaker assignment when requested.
Scope: / To perform regular caretaking duties, maintain security of school facilities and grounds, and provide minor maintenance and repairs to equipment and facilities.
Hours of Work: / Day Shift: / 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Afternoon Shift: / 2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Principal Duties: / 1. / Work in conjunction with the Head Caretaker to provide leadership to caretaking staff
2. / Develop and maintain strong working relationships through effective communications with administration, staff, student, public and Area Supervisor
3. / Work in conjunction with the Head Caretaker
4. / Clean washrooms, floors, walls, fixtures, windows, chalkboards, vacuum carpets. etc.
5. / Maintain and clean outside grounds including snow, grass and litter
6. / Collect and remove garbage to outside bins.
7. / Remove recycling from central location to outside bin.
8. / Move and set up furniture and equipment - desks, chairs, cafeteria tables classroom equipment, etc.
9. / Distribute equipment and supplies throughout the building - paper classroom supplies and equipment, office supplies and equipment, etc.
10. / Secure building: lock doors and windows, set alarm systems.
11. / Opens/Secure school and disarm alarms and checks buildings for heat/light/vandalism
12. / Represent Facilities Management in Fire Inspections
13. / Work alone in building
14. / Use various tools and equipment to make minor repairs - ladders, hand trucks, dollies, saws, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, drills, wrenches, etc.
15. / Responsible for rental access during afternoon shift.
16. / Board up broken windows
17. / Submit work orders for repairs
18. / Ensure compliance with WHMIS regulations (request required safety equipment)
19. / Scrub, wax and seal floors, decant liquids using proper PPE Equipment
20. / Assist in cleaning boilers
21. / Maintain all logs in conjunction with Head Caretaker
22. / Check work request book and perform repairs as needed
23. / Minor painting and graffiti removal
Qualifications: / 1. / Successful completion of all the requirements of the Caretaking Services Training Programme as contained in Appendix “E” of the Collective Agreement.
2. / Physically capable of performing assigned duties.
3. / A record of demonstrated job competence.

ASSISTANT CARETAKER

Scope: / To perform regular cleaning duties, maintain security of school facilities. Assist Head Caretaker/Caretaker with minor maintenance and repairs when required.

Hours: / 40 hour: / 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.
30 hour: / 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
20 hour: / 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Principal Duties: / 1. / Perform cleaning duties as specified in Cleaning Procedures of Policy manual
2. / Develop and maintain strong working relationships through effective communications with administration, staff, student, public and Area Supervisor
3. / Work in conjunction with Head Caretaker/Caretaker
4. / Outside grounds maintenance including snow, grass and litter removal
5. / Clean washrooms, floors, walls, fixtures, windows, chalkboards, vacuum carpets, etc
6. / Collect and remove garbage to outside bins
7. / Move and set up furniture and equipment - desks, chairs, cafeteria tables classroom equipment, etc.
8. / Secure building: lock doors and windows, set alarm systems
9. / Work alone in building
10. / Communicate with Board officials regarding any rental/outside use of the building
11. / Check and lock exterior doors and main entrance after school hours
12. / Check and lock interior doors as directed
13. / Maintain all logs in absence of Head Caretaker/Caretaker
14. / Check emails, Caretaking conference, rental permits
15. / Open Doors as directed
16. / Check, close and lock windows and turn out lights throughout the building.
17. / Activate the surveillance system at the end of the shift
18. / Maintain cleaning equipment
19. / Cleaning duties using ladders (dusting, adjusting drapes, blinds, changing lights or ballasts etc.)
20. / Inform Head Caretaker/Caretaker re: repairs, maintenance and vandalism
21. / Ensure compliance with WHMIS regulations (request required safety equipment)

24. / Operate machinery: buffers, wet/dry vacuums, shampooers, auto scrubbers, lawnmower, snow blowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers, etc.

Minimum Requirements: / 1. / Communicate effectively with diplomacy and tact.
2. / Able to work co-operatively with people and have a people oriented attitude.
3. / Ability to give and take direction and to work with minimum supervision.
4. / A record of demonstrated job competence.
5. / Ability to perform physical duties—lifting heavy objects, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, climbing, gripping, pounding, etc.
6. / Ability to work off 8 foot ladder.

$28.00/hour

Reporting totheLead Supervisor – Energy & Safe Environment, theincumbent willperform inspection, maintenance, and repairon the Board’sheating, ventilation, airconditioning and refrigeration equipmentandassociated controls.

Log onto the employee web portal.

From the main page, click on “Employee Forms”

The following screen will open. This screen will list the forms available to you. Please click on the “Cktg/Mtnc Posting Application Form”.

The form will open. Fill out the information and click on “Submit”.

The following will appear. Please click on “OK”.

Please note there are some fields on the form which are mandatory. As long as all those fields have been filled out, after you click “OK”, the form will disappear and you will be back to this screen.

If you have missed a mandatory field, the following message will appear and the field that you have missed will be highlighted (as per the example below). Fill out the missing field and click on “Submit”.


Once you have successfully submitted the form, you can click on “My Previously Submitted Forms” and see a record of the submission. These records will always remain on this tab so you can always go back to check every form you have submitted.

You can see the list of forms with dates and times submitted. But you can also click on the name of the form and the actual form will open.
