2018 Shrine Mont Camp Staff

The Diocese of Virginia’s summer camp program at Shrine Mont promotes the emotional and spiritual development of children, youth, and young adults through the fostering of a safe and positive environment for all. It is the goal of this program to encourage the growth of relationships with self, others, and God.

Music and Drama Camp

Staff Dates:June 16- July 26

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and one year out of high school.

Music and Drama Camp (MAD) Counselors assist the MAD Camp Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in organized activities in arts and crafts, worship and recreation. Applicants should have experience, ability and/or interest in music or drama, and art. Creative, accepting and outgoing people are sought for this camp.

Art Camp

Staff Dates:June 16 – 21, August 2-11

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Counselors for this camp assist the Art Camp Director in all aspects of the program, and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in organized activities in arts and crafts (assisting the Artist in Residence), worship and recreation. Applicants should have experience and/ or interest in various art media.

St. Sebastian’s Sports Camp

Staff Dates:June 16 – July 12

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Counselors for this camp assist the director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with the campers. Staff members for this camp are expected to be active, and to enjoy learning and practicing different sports with campers. Counselors reside with the campers and supervise and lead them in practice, organized activities, group building, worship, and recreation. Sports experience is preferred – but not required.

St. George’s Camp

Staff Dates:June 16 – August 12

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years oldand one year out of high school.

St. George’sCampCounselors assist the St. George’sCampDirector in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in arts and crafts, worship and recreation. Musical ability or leadership experience in one or more of the following is preferred but not required: art, drama, sports, canoeing, and swimming.

Explorers Camp

Staff Dates:June 16 – 21, July 12 – August 2 (some staff may apply and be hired to work Explorers’ The Great as well from June 23 – July 2)

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Explorers CampCounselors assist the Explorer’s CampDirector in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors reside with the campers. Counselors supervise and lead campers in exploring nature and in outdoor experiential activities, as well as worship, arts and crafts and recreation. Experience in camping, backpacking, and canoeing is preferred but not required.

Senior High Youth Conference

Staff Dates:June 16 – 21, July 13 - 22

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

Senior High Youth Conference (SHYC) counselors assist the SHYC Camp Director in implementing the program and serve as the primary contact with senior high youth. Counselors reside with campers and supervise and lead them in community service projects, group building, worship and recreation. Previous experience working at a summer camp is preferred but not required.

St. Andrew’s Camp – (for campers with developmental, social, and learning needs)

Staff Dates:June 16 –June 30

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old and one year out of high school St. Andrew’s Camp counselors assist the St. Andrew’s CampDirector in implementing the program. Counselors serve as the primary contact with campers. Counselors live with the campers in a home-like setting for the purpose of improving socialization skills and self-esteem while helping the camper live successfully in a small community. High levels of patience, kindness, and energy are required.

St. Elizabeth’s Camp – (moderately mentally impaired campers)

Staff Dates:Paid staff, June 16-21, July 26 - August 2; Volunteer staff, July 27 - August 2

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.

St. Elizabeth’s Camp counselor buddies are all unpaid volunteers. They assist the St. Elizabeth’s Camp Director and paid staff members in working with moderately mentally impaired campers. Each counselor is paired with a camper and helps him or her with living skills, everyday activities, and forming friendships. Volunteer counselors complete a training period prior to the start of camp and are asked to forego their needs and desires for those of their camper buddy.
