Purpose of job:
The role holder will lead on communicating with the public online and offline around the arts team’s Connect ZA programme.
- Ensure that the projects and partners effectively communicate to our target audiences
- Managing the online community and various web platforms ensuring the messaging is engaging, compelling and consistent
- Supporting the monitoring and evaluation of our programme by measuring reach and engagement on and offline
The postholder will provide communications support to the Connect ZA team including programme manager, project managers and coordinators in Johannesburg, Cape Town and – partly – in London. The aim is to provide overall direction and lead the communicationsplanning of the Connect ZA programme and its many projects but also serve as a liaison to key partners and external vendors such as the creative and communications agency. A big emphasis is on the use of digital media including strategies for traditional web and social networks.
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
The postholder will be accountable to the Connect ZA programme manager for the successful delivery of marketing and communications support.
Specific duties will include:
- Leading the Connect ZA team on overall communications planning and strategy for projects and activities
- Management of media contacts and requests on behalf of Connect ZA
- Managing public enquiries into the programme
- Managing the database and social media contact lists
- Writing compelling content for publication in the press, on the British Council websites and blogs
- Management of digital and social media activity including
- leading the digital team/taskforce
- overseeing editorial planning for social media platforms, web/blog and newsletter
- providing guidance on outreach/engagement strategies
- managing newsletters
- Acting as BC/CZA brand champion; monitoring and maintaining the correct use of the British Council and Connect ZA brands
- Assisting the production of case studies, brochures, presentations and partnership materials
- Management of external suppliers; PR Agency; Digital agency
- Line management of content co-ordinator and intern
- Liaising with communications teams of UK and DAC
- Managing and overseeing the delivery of audience numbers and scorecard
Internal:
- Coordination and collaboration with entire Connect ZA team as well as othercolleagues such as the countrydirector, communications manager, regional digital and arts managers
- Line management of Connect ZA coordinator and intern
- Key communications stakeholders in London
- Coordination with other UK organisations such as the UK High Commission
- Key liaison with creative, communications and digital agencies
- Communications managers at partnering organisations
- Communications liaison for the SA-UK Seasons 20142015
