Extra Credit Questions……………….

Site Purpose & Audience

The purpose of this site is to obtain information regarding a companies hardware & software standards, as well as, to answer questions that a typical user might ask. This is an informational site for employees of a company.

The audience should gain answers to common questions varying from helpdesk questions and company standards. The website is intended to reduce helpdesk calls and give the employee a chance to offer feedback in order to make the site a better tool for them to use.

This site is posted on the company’s Intranet and is designed for users with basic to intermediate computer skills.

Site Features

External Links, Framesets, Tables, Cascading Style Sheets, Lists, Forms and Message Posting are some of the advanced features of this site.

· Cascading Style Sheets eliminated repetitive programming and enhanced appearance.

· Lists enhanced appearance of webPage making it easier to read.

· Forms allowed data gathering of employees.

· Message Posting allowed users a tool to express their opinions; it gave them a voice.

Site Assumptions

I made the assumption that all users will have the same version of Internet Explorer as it is a company standard.

Competency

S1D – Can understand general computing principles and solve problems using computer-based application within workstation or PC platforms.

The construction of the site itself fulfills the above competency.

A2C – Can employ principles of design to enhance the functions and aesthetics of objects or environments.

Using color schemes and page layouts within the WebPage fulfills the above competency.

Site Design

I tried to make the site as simple as possible from a user’s standpoint. There is very little clutter on my site and it is very easy to obtain information by the simple click of the mouse. Each page contains a “HOME” button to get back to the website’s home page.

I tried to limit the amount of information per page to avoid information overload for the user.

Project Lessons

The biggest challenge of this project was coming up with a site to design? There are so many possibilities. I decided to build a site that was related to my focus area, which is Computer Science. I decided to build a helpdesk site that would be published within a company’s Intranet.

Other HTML Features

I did not implement any Image Maps because it was more reliable to use several ordinary images placed side by side with a separate link for each image. Doing it this way, I did not have to worry about informing the user that the graphic displayed on the Webpage was actually multiple pictures with multiple links.

I did not include any JavaScript in my Website. I wanted the Website to have a business feel more than a “Surfing” feel.

Other Site Features

I think my site is missing intricate design elements such as complex frames and image maps on the home page. Utilizing these advanced features would make my Webpage more appealing and professional looking.
