Youth and Police Working Together
The goals of the Youth and Police Working Together Program are to promote positive youth development and to increase the numbers of police officers who are experienced and comfortable working and interacting with youth. Local public agencies could apply for funds to increase or enhance opportunities for youth and police to work together to benefit their community. Examples include youth advisory committees and police-involved with youth led community service projects.

City of Bristol

Youth & Police Enrichment
$9,999 / Training for 39 youth ages 12-17, 6 police officers and 3 youth service staff will lead to the creation of 3 enrichment teams that each will develop specific skills (e.g. S.C.U.B.A. diving, rock climbing and dirt biking) and select and implement one community enrichment project.

Town of Enfield

Breaking Down Barriers
$9,999 / Positive relationships will be built between police officers and youth by providing a variety of youth development opportunities with police in a non-traditional law enforcement role. Activities will include a Youth Advisory Board, outdoor adventure, skill building and social events.

Town of Glastonbury

Building Positive Relationships
$9,962 / 100 youth will be provided opportunities to work with police in non-enforcement roles through Youth Police Academy trainings and by hosting a community forum. Team building/trust building activities between youth and police will open lines of communication.

Town of Manchester

Manchester Youth & Police Partnership
$9,999 / This leadership building project is designed to provide opportunities for youth to do some positive things in their community. The focus will be on the good things youth can accomplish when given the opportunity and with appropriate support and guidance from caring adults.

Town of Stonington

YAC Solutions
$9,980 / This project will continue and enhance the efforts of the newly developed Youth Advisory Council (YAC) with staff support. YAC activities will continue to be held biweekly from 2 to 4 p.m. The Chief of Police will meet with the YAC on a quarterly basis.

Town of Waterford

Police and Youth in Action
$9,999 / This project will support the existing Youth Commission in its work with at-risk youth who attend the Drop-In Center at Waterford Youth Services Bureau. A Youth Advisory Board will be established at the Center that develops activities that are appealing to this population.

Westbrook Youth and Family Services, Inc.

Together We Can!
$9,999 / This project will support the activities of Westbrook’s Youth Advisory Council, help develop relationships between law enforcement officials and Westbrook youth and enhance youth/police led activities/events in town.

Town of Wethersfield

Wethersfield Police-Youth Outreach
$9,999 / This project will be designed to build relationships between youth and police and will seek to create activities that allow police to mentor, support and provide guidance to middle and high school youth and teach resistance and conflict management skills.

Town of Windham

Willimantic Youth Safety Education
$9,999 / This collaboration between the Windham Teen Center and the Willimantic Police Department will provide proper Youth Safety Education for the members of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) who will in turn mentor younger students.
