S1.0Polymer synthesis

Fig. 1. SynthesisofpolymerM1-M4

Synthesis of compound (M1-M4):polyether amine (0.1mol for M1-M2 or 0.05 mol for M3-M4, the following amount of H3PO3, hydrochloric acid and Formalin solution were corresponded to the amino numbers of polyether amine.), H3PO3 16.4g (0.2 mol) and hydrochloric acid 12g (35%, 0.11mol) were put into a three-necked flask. The reaction mixture was stirred and heated at 105 oC for 5 hours. After that, Formalin solution 17.8g (37%, 0.22 mol) was slowly added. The reaction was held at 105oC for another 24 hours. The cooled mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was washed with MeOH-Et2O three times.

S1.1Cement paste tests and the main chemical composition of cement

The cement fluidity of polymer wastested as follow procedure. The water-to-cement (w/c) ratio of the paste was set as 0.29 for polymer M1 and M2 (0.35 for polymer M3 and M4). 87 g (105 g) water with polymer was added to 300 g cement and mixed for 2 min at low speed and at high speed, respectively. The dosages were ranged from 1.0‰ to 3.0 ‰, and the decrease in fluidity with time was tested from 4 min to 60 min.

Table S1. Main chemical composition of cement (%).

SiO2 / CaO / Fe2O3 / Al2O3 / MgO / Na2O / SO3
21.98 / 61.86 / 3.07 / 4.61 / 2.02 / 0.68 / 4.43

S1.2 Adsorption isotherms

The samples were prepared as follow. After mixing with cement for 3 min, the liquid phase was centrifuged at 10000 rpm for 2 min. Then 2 ml of the upper clear liquid was taken, added 2 ml 0.1 mol/L HCl , diluted with deionized water to 20 g. The total organic content (TOC) of the samples was tested. For each sample, a reference solution was also measured.
