  • Japanese Beetles: discussed traps (attracting more beetles if you aren’t

already seeing them)

  • Milky Spore - apply on lawn, only effects JB grub, can be applied all year, recommend 2-3x a year, can take 2-3 years to be effective, takes a large group to make it truly effective- if you are the only one in the neighborhood-won’t be that effective, totally safe near vegetables, safest thing you can use
  • Attacking adult JB- Bioneme-unpleasant odor, effective, apply often, must have asitracton (?), doesn’t kill the beetle, just protects the plants
  • Bear 3 in 1, pesticide, kills JB, don’t use it on something flowering-hurts the bee population

Other items he discussed:

  • When insects are attacking a plant, look at what does this plant need? Helps get rid of some insects
  • Mulch is critical to root systems
  • Great time to compost before winter
  • Annuals, perennials half off until the end of the year a lot of nursery stock
