I’m FláviaWoitchyGanzer, a second year at Hatfield studying English Literature. I am applying for Challenges Officer because I want to continue working with what has been the best part of my university experience so far, as an active member of the DUCK team. I find fundraising an incredibly rewarding challenge, and through the role of Challenges Officer, I hope to be a larger part of the visible positive impact we bring to local and international communities. I am prepared to work hard and dedicate myself, as someone with good time management and a degree with flexible hours. I’ve always attempted to further my leadership skills, through experiences such as the Oxford Royale Academy 2-week Global Leadership course. Currently, I am Senior International Representative, giving me voice in my college community to promote challenges events. I am also the current Challenges Officer with DUCK, having so far organized the successful Formally Lost and most of the Everest Base Camp Trek and Skydive. Before Durham, I worked with the South American non-profit charities ACER and TETO, with fundraising and hands-on experience in engaging with young children and fundraising for/building homes in favela communities, respectively. These unique experiences cultivated in me the passion and devotion for charity work that pushes me to run for this role, as well as relevant organisational and teamwork skills. I was also involved in successfully obtaining sponsorship for last year’s DUCK Race, which I understand is an important element in the organisation of DUCK challenges. My main proposition is to give DUCK Challenges a stronger presence in each individual college, using the college representatives to spread awareness and cultivate interest, especially targeting Freshers, in order to stimulate sign-ups. I would like to create a Challenges team of 6-10 students, to delegate the tasks of each event into groups focused on the strengths of each member, for maximum efficiency, similar to the DUCK Challenges team this year. I am keen to follow up on the changes I have made this year that are working, such as rearranging the dates of the Challenges in order tofit the demand, for example, moving Formally Lost to the first term (when Formal hype is at its maximum) and Jailbreak to after exams. Lastly, I would like to introduce the Bungee Jump challenges in the second of third half of the term alongside adrenaline-filled challenges like the Skydive and significantly increase sign-ups for all the challenges in general, working off the increased DUCK awareness that we have been cultivating this year!
