JCCHS Audio/Video Technology and Film

Student and Parent Contract

Students and their parents/guardians must realize, understand, and accept that there are special situations requiring special rules, policies, and grading in this course. If any of the following is not acceptable, the student should not take Audio/Video Technology and Film and should immediately make arrangements to withdraw from the class. If you would like to view a copy of the syllabus in its entirety, you can access it on our AVTF class website at and click on the appropriate course on the sidebar on the right side.

  1. Responsibility: This course requires hands on experience with video equipment in order to develop the necessary skills needed to complete the course. It is our purpose, with the resources we have, to provide the student with whatever he or she needs to fulfill this requirement. Our available video equipment is limited and replacing damaged equipment is costly and difficult since we are not given a budget for that purpose. For this reason, it is expected that each student will exercise mature responsibility while using the equipment. Due to circumstances that involved damaged or lost equipment during previous semesters, it has become necessary to implement a lost/damage policy in order to ensure that there is a sufficient amount of working equipment on hand for students to use. Students who damage or lose equipment will be responsible for the cost of the equipment. (Please see the Equipment Replacement Cost list.)
  1. Behavior: Students who are absent often or have difficulty working in groups or being graded in group situations should not enroll in this class. Students will be making live or taped broadcasts and will be part of a team making live or taped broadcasts. Therefore, each student’s language and behavior must at all times reflect the high standards of JCCHS and the community. Our AVTF standards are based upon those of local network affiliates. Any violation of this behavior policy will result in an F on the project, possible suspension, and/or referral to law enforcement.
  1. Grading: The majority of the projects in AVTF are made in groups. A large percentage of each project’s grade will be the same for all members of the group based on the quality of the end product. This means that the individual students’ grades will be affected by the quality of the entire team’s work. Because of the nature of these group assignments and deadlines therein, an individual student may not always be able to make up missed group projects, even for excused absences. Therefore, absences for any reason may have a serious impact upon grades.
  1. Special Release: Some of the video productions may be shown on local television channels, posted on the JCCHS website, posted on our AVTF website, posted to our AVTF Social Media, shown on our closed circuit system, and/or submitted as entries in various contests to showcase student success. Student names and images will may be included in these productions.

Please sign below indicating that you have read and understand the above information and accept all of these special rules, policies, and grading criteria.
