Janie M. Wilken Memorial 4-H/FFA Scholarship Criteria
I. Stipend
$750 for 1st place, with possible opportunities for additional funding for other applicants.
II. Purpose
The Janie M. Wilken Memorial 4-H/FFA Scholarship has been established to help a graduating senior further his/her education. The senior must have graduated from a school in either the Ford-Iroquois Extension Unit or from a school comprising the Section 10 FFA organization. Funds for this scholarship were gifts in Janie’s memory after she died from injuries suffered in a car accident on July 8, 2001. She would have graduated in 2004 from Iroquois West, where she took great pride in the FFA Organization. She was the greenhand president and named the chapter’s Outstanding Greenhand. She was elected to serve as her Chapter’s Reporter and the Section 10 Secretary for the next school term. She also was a seven-year member of the Danforth Blue Ribbon 4-H Club, most recently serving as Vice-President. She was also active in the Ford-Iroquois 4-H Federation and Fashion Board at the Iroquois Count Fair.
III. Eligibility
A graduating senior that is an active member in a Ford-Iroquois 4-H Club and/or a member of a Section 10 FFA Chapter.
· 4-H member applicant must be a member for a minimum of five (5) years
· FFA member applicant must be a member for a minimum of three (3) years
IV. Application Procedure

B. Completion of the application form.
C. Submission of 2 or more letter of reference from:
1. Faculty member
2. Sponsor of an extra-curricular activity
3. Clergy of applicant
4. Employer of applicant
D. Submission of an official transcript
E. The above listed documents shall be returned to the Wilkens at the above listed address by April 1.
V. Selection Process
A. The Janie M. Wilken Memorial 4-H/FFA Scholarship committee consists of people identified by her parents that were familiar with Janie’s accomplishments and contributions to the community.
VI. Award
A. The successful candidate(s) shall be notified prior to graduation. Proof of the completion of the recipient’s first semester of college/career training must be presented to Janie’s parents at the address listed above, who will draft the monetary award to the recipient. The Wilkens also have the right to ask for proof of enrollment in second semester course work.
B. Should the chosen recipient fail to meet the criteria for receiving the scholarship, it will go the alternate. Should both the recipient and the alternate fail to qualify, the money will be left in the interest bearing account.
