Offensive Strategies: 1) Steal 2) Bunt 3) Hit and Run

*******If Tribe up by 5 or more do not Steal, H&R, or Bunt********

Steal: 2nd – ASR of 6 or more

3rd – ASR of 5 or more, NEVER with 2 outs

Home – NEVER

Bunt: Cassali, Barnes with runners on 1st, 0 or 1 out; with runner on 2nd, 0 out

Hit and Run: Pierzynskil with runner on 1st, less than 2 out

Pinch Hitting:

Vrs rhp: if Indians trail in the 7th or later, ph Naquin for Guyer, Pierzynski for Casali, Chisenhall for Barnes; also if the Indians trail, and if there is someone who can play the bater’s position, ph for Grossman, Rua, and Pierzynski with the available player from this list with a ba higher than the batter: Blanco .263, Hernandez .238, Barnes .219, Guyer .216, Casali .163.

vrs lhp: Always pinch-hit Guyer for Naquin, Casali for Pierzynski, Hernandez for Chisenhall vrs, lhp (Naquin, Pierzynski, and Chisenhall are never to face a lhp except as desperate pinch hitters); Guyer should go to cf, Casali to c, Hernandez to rf; if both Guyer and Hernandez enter the game in the same inning, Hernandez goes to cf, Guyer to rf.

If the Indians trail in the 7th or later, and there is someone who can play the batter’s position, ph for Casali and Barnes with the available player from this list who has a higher BA than the batter: Hernandez .273, Naquin .250, Blanco .211, Use Naquin only vrs. lhp who do not match up well with lhb, and only when he represents the tying run.

Pitching Rotation

1)  Kluber T BH

2)  Sabathia C

3)  Salazar

4)  Cashner R

5)  Paxton C

Pitching Strategies:

Starters: Starters should go at least 2 innings; remove when fatigued afterward

Remove all starters 10 batters after fatigue point – do not risk injury.

Relievers: Relievers pitch innings/batters as instructed below, unless extra innings or last game of the series

Please go down list to find first applicable pitcher; if the first choice is unavailable, use the next

Extra innings: Start at the bottom and work up

Try to limit short relievers to 1 2/3 ip unless the final game of a series, though I understand there’ll be times when they need to go the full 2 ip.

There is no closer on this team; any reliever can finish the game if the match-up warrants it, though it will usually be Barnette, Nicasio or Diaz.

Diaz: middle of the 8th on; if there’s a lead to protect, and he’s available, use Barnette; otherwise, stick with Diaz

Should Diaz be pitching and a lhp or rhp with a pwr of 4 or 5 represent the tying or go-ahead run, look to Chafin (Rogers) vrs. lhb or Nicasio (Barnette) vrs. rhb; if the opponent ph’s to take advantage of the match-up (rhp vrs. Chafin, lhp vrs. Nicasio) and there’s a base empty and a better match-up on deck, INTENTIONALLY WALK the batter to get that better match-up, or relieve the pitcher to insure a better match-up. Try to keep the ball in the park.

Chafin: 7th on; lefty specialist – for the lhb who absolutely has to be retired; remove when facing a rhb; if unavailable, use Rogers; if no lhp is available, go to Diaz

Hunter 5th on: if two of the first three batters he’ll face are rhb; if unavailable, use Diaz

Rogers 5th on: if two of the first three batter he’ll face of lhb; if unavailable, use Chafin

Barnette: 3rd on; if unavailable, use Nicasio, then Diaz

Nicasio: 3rd on, or in case of injury to starter; if unavailable, use Barnette, then Diaz

Use Nicasio and Barnette to stop the bleeding and keep the Lakers close if the starter weakens. Alternate them; though each can go two consecutive days if pitched to less than 9 batters the previous day.

Defensive Instructions:

Intentional Walks: See instructions under Diaz in reliever

Corners In: Runner 3rd (and any other bases), +/-1, 0-1 out, 7th inning on, game within 2

Infield In: Winning or Tying run on 3rd, 0-1 out, 8th-9th inning

Holding Runners: Always hold runners

Throwing: Always throw at lone baserunner

Throw at ABR <=7

8th inning on – Throw at Tying or Go Ahead Run at Home ABR <=9

Defensive replacements: In the 8th, Indians winning, if the replaced player has batted, otherwise in the 9th: Casali for Pierzynski, Barnes for Rua in lf, Hernandez for Naquin in cf (Guyer moves to rf), Guyer for Chisenhall in rf. Ideal final defense: 1b), Santana; 2b) Kipnis; ss) Lindor; 3b) Plouffe; c) Casali; lf) Barnes; cf) Hernandez; rf) Guyer

Injury/Ejection Replacements: 1b) Plouffe, Rua; 2b) Blanco, ss) Blanco, 3b) Blanco; c) Casali, Pierzynski; lf) Barnes, Hernandez; cf) Hernandez, Guyer, Naquin, Barnes; rf)Chisenhall, Barnes, Guyer, Hernandez. Grossman can also appear in (not play) lf and rf.
