It has been arranged for you to have an ECG recording.

You may find it helpful to read the following notes regarding the procedure.

Where will this be carried out?

The test will be carried out either at Trafford General Hospital or at Altrincham General Hospital and you should refer to your appointment letter for where your procedure is to take place.

Please bring a list of your medication including dosage with you.

What is an ECG?

This is a tracing of the electrical activity of your heart.

The Test

You will come to the department on the day of the test and check in with the receptionist who will direct you where to wait. It is helpful if you can arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time and the test itself should take no more than 15 minutes.

The physiologist will introduce themself to you and take you into the room where the test is to be performed. They will explain the test to you and ask you to remove any necessary articles of clothing above the waist and since we need access to your ankles it is helpful if ladies could avoid wearing tights. The physiologist will stick some electrode pads onto your chest and limbs to which they will attach wires going to the ECG recorder. This will pick up your heart beating. This test is non-invasive, which means there will be no pain of any sort. It is helpful for this test if you can remove any jewellery from your neck before you arrive.

Should you have any worries about the procedure the physiologist will be only too pleased to discuss them with you, but please bear in mind we are not doctors and as such are not qualified to give out results or medical advice.

After The Test

The tracing will be reported by a consultant at the hospital and then sent to your doctor.
