Invitation Passive Sampling Workshop

(9-10 November 2011, Utrecht, the Netherlands)

On behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, you are invited to an international passive sampling workshop, organized by Deltares.

Aim:The aim of the workshop is to explore, the possibilities, challenges and pitfalls of passive sampling within monitoring frameworks, especiallyunder the Water Framework Directive (WFD)

Program:The detailed program is given below.

The focus of the first day will be on the implications of passive sampling as a monitoring tool for the WFD, including aspects likethe added value of passive sampling versus water column monitoring, regulatory aspects towards Brussels, frequency of measuring, passive sampling versus grab samples and/or biota sampling.

At the second day, the focus will be on the more technical and practical aspects of passive sampling like the application of passive samplers and dataprocessing. This day will also include a demonstration of the practice of passive sampling in the field.

Participation is free of charge. Drinks, lunch, and dinner at 9 November in the city centre of Utrecht, will be included. Costs for travel and hotel are not included.

Participants: Presenters at the workshop are international key players in the field of passive sampling and are from research institutes, waterboards and governmental organizations. Since the second day is more practical, also participants can attend who apply or are planning to apply passive sampling in practice in the field or will use passive sampling in their monitoring.

Location: the workshop is located at Deltares, Princetonlaan 6, 3584 CB, Utrecht. From the city center, take bus 11 and exit at Botanische tuinen (Botanical garden).
