Be Prepared!

Introductory Physics 2010-2011

BE PREPARED:
It is important that you come to class prepared every day. In order to be prepared for class you must have the following:
 Binder (At least a 1 inch)
 Pencil (with an eraser)
 Calculator (not on a cell phone, palm pilot, ipod, etc.)
 Homework due for the day

DETAILS:

You must always have all four of the above items with you in class. You may not go to your locker to get these items once class has started. You must always be prepared at the beginning of class. We may conduct surprise readiness checks! The number of points you earn will depend on the number of above items that you have ready at the beginning of class.

KEEP A COMPLETE BINDER:

All handouts and notes for introductory physics class must be kept in an organized 3-ring binder. We would like you to set-up your binder in the following way:

 Dividers: Your binder will need to have some form of dividers. These can be colored paper or official dividers with tabs.

 Binder sections:

#1: Syllabi and important papers

#2: Notes, homework, handouts, labs, and activities

#3: Do Now’s

#4: Quizzes, tests, and projects

 All handouts given to you will always be three-hole punched. When you receive a handout, you must place it in the correct section. When we return graded work to you, be sure to place the work back in the correct section.

 Work from other classes may not be kept in your introductory physics binder.

On days of some quizzes, we will collect and grade your binder during the quiz. You will receive your binder back by the end of class. The binder must be ready to be handed in at the beginning of class. No work may be done on the binder once class begins. We will check to make sure that you have all of the papers and that all papers are in the correct sections of the binder.

Specific Course Policies:

  • We expect you to be respectful in our classroom. This includes: yourself, classmates, adults, lab equipment, and classroom furniture.
  • Work to be graded must be turned in on time. Late work will only be accepted up until the day of the corresponding quiz and late work will be graded down appropriately.
  • Work must be your own.
  • We expect all students to make an honest effort in all classroom activities and labs.
  • You are always responsible for what happens in class. If you are absent, you are responsible for what you missed. If you are absent, you must see one of your teachers individually immediately upon your return. You should find a buddy or two who can help you out when you do miss class.
  • You need to be in class. You are responsible for reading and following the school's attendance policy as stated in the Student Handbook. An excused absence gives you the right to make up any missed work. See your teacher to discuss an appropriate timeframe to complete class work or homework. If you miss a test or quiz, you must make it up within 3 school days. Exceptions will be handled case by case.
  • You must be in class on time. Once we start taking attendance and are in front of the room, class has started. If you are not in your seat and ready once class has started, we will declare you tardy to class. Each time you are tardy, you must serve a working detention.
  • We will follow all school policies pertaining to the N-rule.
  • We expect that you keep an open line of communication with your teachers. Please feel free to talk to us and ask us questions. We are available for extra help in various ways.
  • Use the school help room (next to the library) when you have questions.
  • Electronic Device Policy: you may NOT use any form of electronic device (with the exception of a calculator) during class UNLESS you have permission from the teacher ahead of time for specific reason. If you choose to ignore this policy, an adult in the classroom will take away the device. It will be returned to you at the house office for first offense. After that, we will call home and have your parents/guardian come to pick it up.
