Music Teacher – Job Description

La Salle Academy, a Christian Brothers School, is seeking a music high school teacher. Located in the vibrant and trendy East Village of New York City, La Salle Academy is a Catholic college preparatory school for young men.

The Music Teacher will teach music theory, composition, choral rehearsal for choirs and have artistic oversight of the music program at La Salle Academy. The applicant should provide effective and engaging instruction for beginning and intermediate music students. The ideal candidate is a dedicated educator and an exceptional musician with an engaging, warm personality who truly enjoys working with high school students. The teacher will also begin the process of building a band for the school as well as teaching a band class in the growing and expanding Fine Arts department.

Duties

·  Conduct choir classes.

·  Program meaningful and skill appropriate performance repertoire.

·  Prepare two to three concerts per year at school events.

·  Assist in creating and maintaining a music library for the school.

·  Schedule and conduct student auditions.

·  Build a high school band and teach a band class.

Qualifications

·  A minimum Bachelor’s degree in music education or performance with a willingness to obtain a Masters degree and state certification in the subject area or secondary education within five years from their hire date.

·  Two years proven experience conducting and teaching instrumental music ensembles in a community or school setting.

·  Strong knowledge of choral repertoire and vocal pedagogy techniques.

·  Ability to recruit, organize and train a high school band.
