Internship Terms of Reference: Young Water Professional Intern
Work Percentage: 100%
Supervised by:YWP Programme Coordinator
Time:35 hours a week
Expenses:There is no salary received as part of IWA Internships. Interns will receive subsistence in line with IWA policy on volunteer expenses;any expenses incurred during the direct discharge of IWA duties will be refunded.
Start Date: 01 March 2013
End date: The internship will last a minimum of 6 months, with a review after 3 months
Purpose of the role: IWA is looking for a keen and motivated individual to take up an exciting opportunity to work with the IWA Young Water Professional Network, a professional network of young, dynamic leaders from the water sector from various countries around the world.
Key responsibilities of this position are detailed below. This exciting opportunity will enable you to work alongside emerging water sector professionals, who are taking the lead in tackling the worlds current and future water challenges through research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Working alongside YWP Coordinator the intern key Responsibilities will include:
WORK AREA 1. COMMUNICATIONS
- YWP Website re-organisation and development,
- Publishing World of Opportunities Booklet
- Supported by YWP Programmed Coordinator, take a lead in preparing communication materials for the YWPP global audience: Communication Outputs from YWP news including, e-blasts, and through the IWA YWP social media platforms
WORK AREA 2: YWP GOVERNANCE COORDINATION
- Help coordinate the YWP Working Groups and help support their various activities
- Help coordinate the establishment of YWP national chapters
WORK AREA 3: YWP MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION
- Working alongside the Membership Marketing Manager help in the development of an innovative and creative recruitment and retention strategy for YWP Membership to the Association.
- Help prepare marketing materials (marketing emails etc) for targeted campaigns to YWPs.
- Assist in the dissemination of electronic membership marketing campaigns to YWPs
Training: IWA is committed to training and developing its interns. These could include adaption and tailoring of project responsibilities which will specifically suit and develop each participant.
The right candidate will have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with people from all backgrounds, cultures, faiths
- Good report writing skills
- Effective and confident communication skills
- Hold or be studying towards an undergraduate degree in or relating to international development, water engineering, marketing communication, or similar discipline;
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Commitment to the IWA mission
- Good information technology skills including word processing, spread sheets and email
- Understanding of and interest in current international development issues
- Eligibility to work in the Netherlands
The above job description contains the main duties and responsibilities for this position. The intern may be asked to undertake other tasks and missions that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular job description. This will be in consultation with the intern, and line manager(s) in IWA.
