Overview

TheInternational Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, organized jointly by The Henry Samueli School of Engineering (HSSoE) and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), is a 9-week research training program to provide a comprehensive engineering experience to the participants. Each student will select and work on a specific research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor from The Henry Samueli School of Engineering, and deliver a final presentation to conclude the research project. In addition, students will participate in a series of professional development seminars, and visit technology centers and companies to develop an international perspective on engineering. Three academic units will be awarded upon completion of the program.

Program Requirement

·  Engineering major (finished at least two years of study at home institution)

·  Top 20% by ranking

·  Excellent communication skills

·  High English proficiency

·  Plan to apply for graduate programs

·  Motivated, independent and responsible Individuals

·  Prior research experience is a plus

Important Dates

·  Application deadline: April 15, 2013 (DUT nominating 10-15 students)

·  Deposit due: $300, May 1, 2013 (Non-refundable)

Program Cost

The total cost includes program administration and activities, transferable academic course credit fee (3 units of 199—independent research course), UCI visa processing fee, research expenses, health insurance and lodging. Program cost excludes estimates on airfare, meals, visa fees and personal expenses.Students with excellent academic achievements will be awarded with partial scholarships ($4500/person) to the program.

Application Procedure:

·  DUT will select 10 – 15 from the top 20% rankedstudents.

·  DUT will send a list with these student names, email address and ranking to UCI by April 15th, 2013

·  Students will be invited by UCI to apply to the program officially online:

o  Fill out I-SURF application

o  Provide official transcript, one-page personal statement, and top 5 project choices.

·  UCI will conduct on-site or online interview among the selected students to award 1 – 3 partial scholarships.
