CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Podium and Poster Presentations

Abstracts of work addressing any area of nursing health services research, nursing administration, or health delivery systems may be submitted for a podium or poster presentation, if the work has not been published in a peer-reviewed journal or presented at another national meeting. Of particular interest are papers that describe implementation of research findings to improve quality, safety and cost outcomes in nursing care settings.

Abstracts of completed research, theoretical developments and advances in methodologies will be considered. Graduate students may submit abstracts for podium or poster sessions. Submission of research in progress will only be considered for a poster presentation.

All abstracts will be evaluated by blinded peer review. Notification of acceptance of the abstract/s will be June 1, 2011. Only the designated contact person will receive notification of the review decision.

All fees, expenses, and arrangements associated with attending conference are the responsibility of the presenter/s. The presenter/s of abstracts accepted for podium or poster presentation are expected to register for the conference. Presenter/s are prohibited from marketing commercial products and/or services through either podium or poster presentations.

Guidelines for submission:

Abstracts:

All abstracts must be submitted online to: . The text should be12-point Arial font. Do NOT use a smaller font size. No more than 500 words of text. The text should also include objectives for the podium or poster session.

Title should be typed in UPPER CASE letters. The name/s, credentials, and institutional affiliation of each presenter/author should be listed on the Presenter Information Form.

The contact person (one person) should complete the required Presenter/s Information Form. This person will be contacted regarding the acceptance of the abstract. It is the responsibility of the designated contact person to inform any co-authors of the abstract regarding the submission and acceptance or rejection.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

1.Include two learner objectives (i.e., measurable outcomes of the presentation that complete the sentence, “The learner will be able to….” each limited to 25 words or less).

2.All abstracts must be no more than 500 words (excluding title, author names, and affiliations).

3.The abstract should be submitted in the following format:

  • The purpose of the project
  • The background and significance of the project
  • The approach or method used in developing the project
  • Major outcomes
  • Conclusions and implications

4.Contact and brief biographical information for each author should be included on a separate page.

Abstract Selection Criteria

Submission will be rated on the following:

  • Overall Quality and Clarity
  • Approach or Method
  • Outcomes or Findings
  • Applicability to the Conference theme of successful solutions and strategies to increase retention of nurses in the profession and in the workplace including the following topics:
  • Retention of new graduates
  • Retention of frontline managers
  • Retention of older, experienced nurses
  • Potential for contribution to knowledge and/or practice in nursing leadership

Poster Presentations:

Visually identify programs or research projects by depicting concepts and context at a glance. Authors will have the opportunity to discuss materials and distribute related handouts. Posters will be presented at during the welcome reception from 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 12. Posters must be hung by the author or representative. The size of the posters can be no larger than 4’ high by 6’ wide and capable of being hung. Posters must be removed by Saturday, October 15, 2010 at Noon. Any posters left behind will be discarded.

Graduate students may submit abstracts to be considered for the poster session. Current graduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts on beginning theoretical development, research methodology or design. Graduate students presenting posters will receive feedback from researchers in the field. Follow abstract submission guidelines.
