Segerstrom High School Cheer Constitution

Angela Maldonado (Advisor)

Overview

All cheerleaders will demonstrate courtesy, responsibility, dependability, cleanliness, and good will at all times; including at home and away games, camps, social media and/or any other situation where the cheerleader is representing Segerstrom High School. The cheerleader will conduct herself/himself accordingly. Good sportsmanship is essential and mandated.

  • It is an honor to be a part of the SFHS Pep Squad. First and foremost cheerleaders are representatives of SFHS, and the main focus is to improve student morale and boost team spirit.
  • Cheerleaders are expected to direct the student body in the support of their school’s team and develop loyalty to the school and teams, regardless of the outcome of a game. This role makes the team a strong influence in guiding student conduct at games, pep rallies, and other performances.
  • The Advisor has been hired by SFHS and is responsible for advising students, ensuring safety as well as holding high expectations for each member of the squad.
  • The Advisor and coach are responsible for the daily physical fitness of the cheer team.
  • The Advisor and coach will be responsible for dealing with minor disciplinary procedures as well as referring students to administration for major offenses.
  • The Advisor or coach may place certain restrictions on teams or team members.

Eligibility

  • Each member must maintain a 2.0 (No letter grades of F or D, as well as U)grade point average to be able to participate in all activities besides practices. Grade checks will be requested throughout the year.
  • Run a mile under 10 min and for Varsity complete a Front or Back Walkover.

Tardiness & Attendance

If tardy to a practice, game, or event such consequences will occur: (In order of Discipline)

  • Benched (entire game, period, practice, or from an event ).
  • Grade and Citizen will be dropped.
  • Dismissal/Probation from Squad.
  • Cheerleaders must be at all practices and activities unless they have an excused absence form from school, a doctor’s note, or there is a death or sudden illness in the immediate family. If one of the above occurs, it is the responsibility of the cheerleader to get in touch (personally) with the advisor.
  • Cheerleaders must attend ALL HOME and AWAY games, pep rallies, and events, including playoff games in its entirety. If it is known in advance that a member might miss or be late to practice, game, or event it is the member’s responsibility to contact the Advisor in advance.

Grades & Tutoring

Grades can and will be affected by the following:

  • Missing games or events.
  • Improper practice attire
  • Attitude
  • Participation
  • All Cheerleaders must maintain a 2.0 grade point average. If a Cheerleader receives an F or D or a citizenship grade of U, in any class that cheerleader will be put on probation until grade is brought up to C.
  • If a Cheerleader needs to attend any school tutoring session a note from the teacher is required.

Uniform

  • Performance uniforms will be provided through donations and team fundraising and will be the property of the school unless purchased by the cheerleader.
  • Each member will be required to maintain good condition and cleanliness of his/her uniforms on a weekly basis up to the end of the year. Those who rent the uniform must return it dry-cleaned and in the condition in which it was given to receive full deposit back.
  • Appearance is part of the uniform. The cheerleader must wear their hair away from the face during practice, games, pep rallies, and any other times specified by the Advisor or coach.
  • No Nail Polish will be allowed at any games, competitions, pep rallies, other events. Acrylic nails are NOT ALLOWED because of safety concerns.
  • Make up should be worn to tryouts, games, pep rallies, competitions, and events. The Advisor/coach will specify how it should be done for each situation.
  • No jewelry of any sort can be worn during practices, competitions, pep rallies, events, or games.
  • All members must have the appropriate work out shoes or cheer shoes for practices and events. If a member forgets part of the uniform then they will sit out during the scheduled event. All cheerleaders must be dressed the same for all events.

Character

  • SFHS Cheerleaders should be leaders within the school and set a positive example at all times.
  • It is important that each member of the team overcome diversities in personality and character to support one another and work together. If any individual is unable to reach this goal it may be necessary for the coach to dismiss him/her to avoid damaging the cohesiveness and safety of the team. Cheerleading is NOT a social club. It is a very demanding sport that requires discipline and focus.
  • Each member must be able to maintain this level of commitment to ensure success and safety for their self and team as a whole. If we are to maintain the high standards in place, we must ask that each participant who wishes to undertake the privilege and responsibility of being a Segerstrom High School Cheerleader make a serious commitment to our program.
  • No Cheerleader will be allowed to show any form of intimacy while in uniform, or while you are representing SFHS and this squad. (At all events, pep rallies, school functions, practices, and games). INCLUDING SOCIAL MEDIA
  • Be aware of what is being posted on social media outlets. At all times remember you are representing the SFHS cheer program even when not in uniform.

Physical Fitness

  • Cheerleaders are athletes and need to work to improve their strength, most importantly, for safety reasons. It is necessary to condition throughout the entire school year.
  • Cheerleaders will be able to run a mile under 10 min.
  • It is recommended that each cheerleader participate in training outside the school site. Cheerleaders can go to local gyms to practice tumbling, this is highly recommended.
  • Cheerleaders will be working out daily during practice.
  • If a cheerleader has a limitation regarding physical activity a doctors not is required.

Dismissal/Violations

The following may result in immediate dismissal or grade drop

  • Undesirable behaviors, as determined by advisor, coaches, and administration, related to but not limited to fighting, smoking, consuming alcohol, drugs, or other inappropriate actions committed on or off school campus at any time. SOCIAL MEDIA
  • An act committed by a cheerleader that would, in the opinion of coaches and administration, harm the reputation of the school or program.
  • Constant tardies, skipping school or missing an event/game/practice without prior approval from advisor or coach.
  • School suspension or multiple detentions or Saturday school assignments.

We look forward to having a great year and season!
