Interactive Oral Jigsaw and Reflective Statement-Works in Translation

Preparation:

1)As a group, write down everything you KNOW about the topic you are assigned in your blue books. Topics: Biography, Magical Realism, Genre, Culture

2)On another page, write down everything you WONDER about all four of the above topics.

3)Read and take notes on your assigned articles:

  1. Biography (1st half of articles up to and including the timeline)
  2. Magical Realism (2nd half of articles up to Whodunnit)
  3. Genre: Literature or Journalism and The True Story
  4. Culture: The Latino and his Culture

4)Divide your book cover into four boxes and label: Biography, Magical Realism, Genre, and Culture. Take notes on your articles and write the notes in the correct box.

5)With your group, plan a presentation for the IO. Presentation must include: SOAPSTone, key points of the articles, Connections to Chronicle of a Death Foretold with text evidence to support)

6)Practice and time your presentation.

How to be a good presenter:

  • Prepare sufficiently and have your material ready to go when your presentation starts.
  • Give your presentation a clear structure so that your classmates can follow it easily and can take notes.
  • Speak clearly and slowly, and be considerate of classmates who ask for clarification or repetition.
  • Link your presentation to the text as often as possible.
  • Use your group’s prepared questions to further class discussion.
  • Do not repeat ideas the class already discussed.

How to be a good listener:

  • Take notes during the presentation, making sure to mark any information that seems confusing or might need more clarification. Take notes that will help you write your Reflective Statement.
  • Try to constantly take the information and create your own connections between the presentation and the work you are studying.
  • Ask questions or raise other possible areas of investigation related to the presentation.
  • Be an active participant in any discussion that arises from the presentation.
