Health and Physical Education Year 8 / Semester 1 or 2
HPE / HPE 081- Roadmap to Health
Students who study Year 8 Health and Physical Education provide opportunities to develop as active participants, managing their own health and physical activity patters. Students will be involved in a variety of learning experiences, both theoretical and practical which develop knowledge, processes, skills and attitudes necessary for making informed decisions about:
·  Promoting their own health and that of others
·  Developing concepts and skills required for participation in a range of physical activities including team and individual activities
·  Enhancing personal development particularly in regard to team work and group building
·  Developing knowledge, understanding and skills to manage their own physical fitness and physical activity priorities
Health and Physical Education Year 9 / Semester 1 / Semester 2
HPE / HPE 091 - Health and PE 1A
This elective unit continues the investigation of the importance or value of sport and physical activity from Year 8. Issues such as low participation levels and health related fitness concerns will be explored. The concepts of sportsmanship, safety, fair play and equity will be applied to a variety of sporting and physical activities. Satisfactory performance (better than C standard) in Yr. 8 HPE is expected if choosing this unit.
CSP 091 – Health and PE 1B
The main emphasis of this elective unit is for the learner to gain experience in a variety of Creative and Performance Sports. Concepts such as the underlying characteristics of physical activities and the effects of training and practice will be applied to personal and team performance. Satisfactory performance (better than a C Standard) in Yr. 8 HPE is expected if choosing this unit. / . HPE 092 - Health and PE 2
This mandated unit investigates the development of personal health and the health of young people in general –it focuses on behaviours and issues around nutrition, drug use, sexual activity and physical recreation as a means of promoting positive health and wellness. The concept of active participation in a wide range of recreational activities and how to build this into personal lifestyle is a major focus in this unit.
Health and Physical Education Year 10
Year 10 / Semester 1 –Health and PE 3
This mandated unit explores the importance of physical activity in a healthy lifestyle. Recent National campaigns have highlighted the need for regular planned physical activity and this unit provides students with the opportunity to take responsibility for their own physical activity patterns and choices. Students will participate in a wide range of physical activity in an effort to provide the skills to be able to make these plans and evaluate their choices.
Semester1 and 2 –Specialist Sport
This elective unit explores and prepares students for the senior subject, Physical Education. Students will investigate how the focus areas of motor learning, exercise sciences and socio-cultural factors integrate with a range of sporting and physical activities. Students will learn how to think, perform and write as a physically educated student.
