I  Eastern Chad - mission debriefing

Mr. Theo Murphy (Amnesty International), Researcher for Sudan

Ø  Mr. Murphy briefed on the findings of his recent mission to Eastern Chad and Addis Ababba, which gave insights into the nature of insecurity in Darfur and the pressing political issues within the rebel movements, the Janjeweed, and Darfur at large.

II  Uganda - debriefing on mission of the RSG for Human Rights of IDPs

Ms. Karen Gulick (RSG on Human Rights of IDPs), Assistant to the Representative of the Secretary General

Ø  Ms. Gulick briefed on the RSGs recent mission to Uganda, which took place in late June early July, including the outcomes of a two-day workshop in Kampala on the Implementation of Uganda’s National Policy for Internally Displaced Persons.

Ø  One of the main conclusions from the mission is that Uganda has a good National Policy for IDPs, but that special efforts are needed to implement it. Serious humanitarian and human rights crisis persists in the North of the country.
