STUDENT ASSISTANCE FUND 2014/15

The Student Assistance Fund is funded by the Irish Government and part funded by the European Social Fund

Are you eligible for this fund?

The SAF is available for:

·  Full-time, registered students who have a total household income of €30,000 or less (including Social Welfare payments and rent allowance)

Students who live in a designated Disadvantaged Area and/or who attended a designated Disadvantaged School before coming to IT Tallaght are particularly encouraged to apply.

A small portion of the Fund is available for students who do not fall into the group above, but who may become homeless or experience serious illnesses or setbacks during the academic year.

The SAF is NOT available for:

Part-time students, Funded post-graduate research students or incoming Erasmus students.

How does the Fund work?

The Application

·  Watch the instructional videos at www.ittdublin.ie/SAF (even if you have applied before – some changes have been made to the application form and processes this year).

·  Complete all sections of the Application Form.

·  Attach all the documents that apply to you which are listed in the blue writing on the form.

·  Post the form and documents in the post box outside the door of the Registrar’s Office (Room 120) in an envelope marked ‘Student Assistance Fund’

·  The earlier you hand in your application the sooner the Committee can assess it.

If you are approved for the Fund:

·  You receive an approval email.

·  You also receive confirmation by text message. You will not receive a confirmation letter.

·  We have a huge amount of applications so please be patient until you receive a response. It may take up to three or four weeks but you can check by emailing .

·  Your first payment will be approved. The amount will depend on your household income.

·  You will be asked to submit receipts for the amount approved for you - YOU CAN ONLY BE GIVEN FUNDING FOR EXPENDITURE YOU HAVE RECEIPTS FOR – SO KEEP ALL RECEIPTS FOR:

  • College Books / College Materials / Required Course clothing
  • Transport
  • Rent
  • Heat / Lighting / Food
  • Medical / Dental expenses
  • Costs of compulsory study abroad

·  There are two documents you need to submit with your receipts – the Bank Details Form and the Receipts Form – these will be available outside the door of Registrar’s Office.

·  The first payment will be made to your Bank Account providing you are in good financial standing with the Institute regarding Fees. If you have applied for a grant, please make sure you provide us with confirmation of this.

·  In the 2nd semester, additional monies will be approved for a second payment and you will be notified about this by email and text message. This amount will depend on your household income and the remaining funds.

If you are not approved for the Fund:

·  You will be informed in writing.

·  You can appeal the Committee’s decision by writing a letter to: The Student Assistance Fund Committee, Registrar’s Office and dropping it into the SAF Office.

Childcare:

Limited support for childcare costs in registered childcare facilities is available from the Student Assistance Fund. Students are advised that they should not depend on the SAF to cover the costs of childcare.
