Citation

Dr. Anjum Suhail was born on 08.09.1960 in the District Faisalabad (Punjab). He qualified B.Sc.(Hons.) Agri. Entomology degree programme in 1983, M.Sc. (Hons.) in 1985 and Ph.D in 1994 from the Department of Agri. Entomology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. During his Ph.D programme, Dr. Suhail completed three months Diploma in the field of Integrated Pest Management from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, UK, in 1991. He has specialized in the field of Insect Biosystematics and Apiculture. Dr. Suhail always remained among the top five students in his academic carrier and merit scholarship holder (1981-85).

Prior to join the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, he worked as Research Officer in Honeybee Research Station, Ayub Agriculture Research Institute, Rawalpindi and Mobile Credit Officer in Agricultural Development Bank, of Pakistan, Sumandri Branch (Faisalabad). He joined the University as Lecturer (1986-1992) and then promoted as Assistant Professor (1992-1999), as Associate Professor (1999 to-date) in the Department of Agri. Entomology. The chairman, Department of Agri. Entomology, ranked him as an excellent teacher/researcher. Dr. Anjum Suhail is a well-recognized scientist as evident from research grants, appreciations and Star Laureate Award won by him. He has completed two research projects and one research-training course as resource person. His salient achievements include:

  • Developed one Post-Graduate course, ENT-703, Environmental Entomology.
  • Offered short training course on Apiculture.
  • Published 103 research papers in National and International journals of repute, 02 Research Reports, 04 books and 10 popular articles.
  • Explored the grasshopper’s fauna of Pakistan in which 146 species have been identified, out of which 48 species and one family has been recoded for the first time from Pakistan, while two genera and 11 species were new to science and named.
  • Developed beekeeping and bee farming in Faisalabad.
  • Prepared different artificial diets for the rearing of honeybees.
  • Supervised 01+ (04 presently) Ph.D and 53 Post-Graduate theses research.
  • Member of the supervisory committee of 95 M.Sc./ M.Phil. / Ph.D theses research.
  • Developed Insect Biodiversity and Biosystematics Research Lab in the Department.
  • Established the most sophisticated Central Hi- Tech Lab, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.
  • Being a pioneer in the country, work on the molecular characterization of insects.

In addition to above, Dr. Suhail has completed many research trainings and got distinctions. He is a member of many Academic/Research Societies and Chief Editor of the Newsletter of central Hi-Tech Lab., while he is senior vice president of Entomological Society of Pakistan. He is entrusted by the University Administration and got some important additional administrative assignments like, Officer Incharge Examination of Affiliated Colleges, Associate Senior Tutor of the Tutorial Group System, and remained Incharge central Hi-Tech Lab. Presently, he is working as Chairman, Department of Entomology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.
