Is this the first time you are hearing about Lacrosse?Don’t sweat it….we can turn you into Bandit!

What is Box Lacrosse?

It is a team sport and the fastest game you play on two feet. It is played in an arena.

How many players are on the Floor?

5 players and one goalie per team.

What are the positions?

Goalie who protects the net, 2 Crease Players who play near the net in both ends (the defense), 2 Point Players who are usually in shooting positions (offense) and then a Top player who usually takes control of the play (and does the face off). You will also have a coach who will teach you and help you learn the plays.

What are the key rules?

You want to protect the net and your “House” well enough to get possession of the ball and create a scoring opportunity.The “house” an area of about 20 feet in front of the goalie. Picture a semi circle of about 5 ftinfront of the net. That is the crease. Now add a 20 ft. semi circle, and that area is “the house”. (see diagram below).

How does a “draw” work?

The two draw men get down low to clamp the ball with the head of their stick as soon as the referee blows the whistle and takes his hand off the ball.

How does the game start?

The players on the floor line up on the 2 restraining lines on the floor and when the whistle is blown the draw players have a face off. (see diagram)

How many periods are in a game and how long are they?

3periods and they are 15 minutes long

What is a shot clock?

The shot clock starts when a team takes possession of the ball, and there is 30 seconds for the team to shoot at the net or they lose possession. If they take a shot on the opposing goalie, there shot clock is reset for 30 seconds even if they keep possession.

What is the crease?

The crease is a boundary zone around the net. Players cannot step or cross over the crease of your opposing team during the game.

What is a Lacrosse stick made up of?

A shaft, which is the long metal stick part, a head that is mess and sidewall string and shooting strings.

What equipment will you need to wear?

Indoor running shoes, a Jock, shorts, kidney pads, shoulder pads, bicep pads, arm guards, gloves, helmet with a cage and a mouth guard.

When is the Box House League Lacrosse Season and for how long?

House League runs from the end of April until the last week of June. Rep sesason runs from end of April until mid August, depending on your division (it may end August long weekend).

What happens at the end of the Season?

All teams in house league enter play offs and a series of games determines the best team for day of Little Champs (Saturday, June 27th, 2015). The wins and loses for the season will determine who you play that day.

What are the benefits of playing Lacrosse?

You continue to develop other sports skills (hand eye coordination, leg strength, cardio, stamina, team spirit and a love for athleticism).
