Citizens Advisory Council: representative needed for ward one

  • In January 2017, DC Waterwill beginan ambitious District-wideprogramto replace water meters. Representatives from DC Water laid out the details of their replacement plan and the timeline for the project.

Executive Council, and Commissioner Announcements

John Clarke- Updates from the Mayors office

  • The Summer Youth Employment Program is being expanded. It will not include people 14-24. There is an information session on Friday, February 3rd.
  • The Mayor will hold budget forums. The first is February 6th at the Columbia Heights Educational Center.

Commissioner’s updates

  • Squicciarini: Commissions Squicciarini and Bristol of 1B04, 1B06 will hold a meet and greet on Saturday Feb 25th at La Colombe
  • Bristol: Commissioner Bristol provided updates from the DOEE meeting and highlighted Treasurer protocols
  • Smith: There will be events discussing the Paid Family Lave Act this month at Busboys and Poets. The Lion Hotel Group will be doing employment events Tuesdays at 9am.
  • Mater: Community members have formed an ad hoc group to discuss the Girard st park. To join the group or to receive updates, email Commissioner Mater.
  • Ackerman: The Commissioner is working on securing the vendors needed for this summer’s movies in Meridian park.

Consent Agenda

Action: Commissioner Hudson moved to accept the January 2017 Draft Meeting Minutes as written.

Motion passes with unanimous consent.

Commissioner Gudzinas moves that the ANC1B sign on to a Resolution Letter on Welcoming All to the District of Columbia.

Motion Fails

Commissioner Squicciarini moves to table the discussion of the letter until next month.

Executive Committee Items

Committee Chair Elections Process and Update of Rules

Action: Commissioner Squicciarini moved that the ANC accept the Committee Chair Elections Process and Update of Rules.

Motion passes with unanimous consent

A community member expressed concern with the procedure of electing community members rather than elected commissioners as chairs of committees. She cites the success of ANC 2B and urges commission to follow suit.

Election of Committee Leadership

ABRA

With the nomination of community member Nick Bauman, ANC votes unanimously to confirm Nick Bauman for Chair of the ABRA committee.

Public Safety and Community Engagement

With the nomination of Commissioner Smith and community member Domingo Garcia the ANC votes unanimously to confirm Commissioner Smith Domingo Garcia as Chairs of Public Safety and Community Engagement committee.

Zoning,Preservation and Development

With the nomination of Commissioner Ackerman and community member Patrick Nelson, the ANC votes unanimously to confirm Commissioner Ackerman and Patrick Nelson as Chairs of the Zoning, Preservation and Development committee.

Transportation

With the nomination of Commissioner Mater, the ANC votes unanimously to confirm Commissioner Mater as Chair of the Transportation Committee.

Economic Development

With nominations of community candidates Mr. Johnson(present) and Ms. Shand (not present, in a vote of 10 to 2, the ANC voted to confirm Mr. Johnson as the Chair of the Economic Development Committee.

With the nominations of Commissioners Hudson and Gudzinas, in a vote of 11-1, the ANC confirmed Commissioner Hudson as Chair of the Economic Development Committee.

Action: Commissioner Squicciarini moved that the ANC votes to confirm candidates in a blockrather than individually.

Action: Commissioner Squicciarini moved that the ANC confirms the block of confirmed candidates.

Transportation Committee

Action: DDOT previously passed and approved so no need for ANC1B to take any action

All Souls Café-725 T Street NW, DDOT Tracking # 187820

Action: Commissioner Ackerman moves that the ANC approves the request from All Souls Café to erect a steel canopy over the existing sidewalk café which will include the installation of lighting, heater and fans.

6th Annual D.C. Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half-Marathon

Action: Commissioner Ackerman moves the ANC to approve the letter of support to be sent to D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

Zoning, Preservation and Development Committee

1851 9th St NW (RF-1) – Howard University/Maybelle Bennett (1B-02) – ZC Case 11-15E Hearing Date 2/16/17

Action: Commissioner Gudzinas moved that the ANC support a special exception review and approval to permit interim university use of property thatconsists of approximately 6,461 square feet of land area and is located at 1851 9th Street, N.W. (Square 394, Lot 874).

8th & T St NW (RF-1) – Manna Inc/Jamie Solomon (1B-02)

Action: Commissioner Gudzinas moved to accept the recommendation that the full ANC send a letterof support to Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for project at 8th and T St NW, six townhomes, four affordable, two market rate, as they get ready to go through underwriting at the DHCD.
