Information packet and presentation outline

  1. Your business drivers
  2. Explain what current business issues create a need to change; discuss the benefits and business reasons for the change
  3. Explain how these external and internal issues impact employees
  4. Talk about your customers’ needs or expectations that support a need for change.
  5. Discuss how your competitor’s activity is creating a need for change.
  6. Your business performance
  7. Present the operational performance measures and trends to demonstrate the business problem or opportunity (use charts and graphs).
  8. Show the corresponding financial performance and trends to demonstrate how this business condition affects the organization’s financial performance (use charts and graphs).
  9. Compare performance with benchmarks or against performance goals (show contrast with where the business is today versus where you need to be for success).
  10. Your objectives for the change
  11. Share the specific objectives that must be achieved with this change.
  12. Describe the conditions of a successful change (numerical goals that would indicate if the change was a success).
  13. Your scope of the change
  14. Share who is impacted by this change and what organizations are not impacted.
  15. Describe which processes will undergo the most change and which processes will remain unchanged.
  16. The impact to your organization
  17. Share the potential consequences to your business if no change is made. Discuss the do-nothing scenario.
  18. Talk about the different options the organization has to respond to the change, and the associated risks of each of those options.
  19. Your change – the details
  20. Describe what will change in your business.
  21. If elements of the change (the solution) are known, begin to present the high-level vision for the organization.
  22. If elements of the change are not yet known, discuss when more information will be available and set expectations.

Sample Agenda for Section 1 Review meeting

  1. Welcome and introductions
  2. Purpose and length of meeting
  3. Framework for these review meetings (share a timeline for your team meetings based on the process for using the survival guide discussed previously)
  4. Overview of the change project (from information packet outline on previous page)
  5. Question and answer session on information packet
  6. Choices and outcomes discussion (discuss the choices listed in the survival guide (pages 18 - 26); ask your team to talk about these choices and list others that may not be included)
  7. Section 2 assignment overview (assign the team to read Section 2 and complete the worksheets for a personal change and for the business change, and schedule your Section 2 meeting and exercise)
