Information for European exchange and short-term students

Students should consult the Social Sciences Stage 2/3 Handbook in order to obtain information about available modules within the LawSchool

Please note that some courses may not be run in a given academic year and others may only run if there are sufficient numbers. In such cases students will be asked to make an alternative choice.

The information below is organised according to students’ home universities:

Amsterdam, Bergen, Copenhagen and Maastricht:

It is strongly recommended that students from these universities choose their modules to meet the requirements of the Diploma in European Legal Studies.

It has been designed to guarantee that students receive tuition in both European and international law as well as in at least one core area of national law. It is also designed to provide students with a degree of flexibility to choose subjects which are of interest to them.

Bologna, Deusto (Bilbao), Madrid Complutense, Marburg:

Students should register for the Diploma in English Law, choosing all courses from the Law list.Students may not register for Business Law (LW502) or Droit Civil (LW539).

Students from Marburg and Grenoble 2 must take LW304 Obligations I. The remaining credits must be taken from the Law list.

Students from Paris I must take:

•LW304 Obligations I

•LW 503 Constitutional and Administrative Law

•Plus two optional modules selected from the Law list

Bordeaux and Paris X:

LL.B.

Students who have successfully passed courses in Obligations I and Constitutional and Administrative Law prior to studying at Kentwill be registered for the LL.B. degree.

Those who wish to obtain a qualifying law degree[1]must take the following modules:

•LW501 Property Law

•LW508 Criminal Law

•LW512 Obligations II

•LW513 Equity and Trusts

Students not wishing to obtain a qualifying law degree1 may take:

•LW512 Obligations II

Either LW501 Property Law or LW513 Equity and Trusts

•Plus two optional modules selected from the Law list

Diploma in English Law

Students who have not passed modules in Obligations I and Constitutional and Administrative Law prior to studying at Kent must register for the Diploma in English Law. Students must take LW500 Obligations I and LW503 Constitutional and Administrative Law plus two optional modules selected from the Law list.
