Introduction

A team of K-5teachers, instructional strategists, and district personnel began creating curriculum planners during the 2011-12 school year to support ELA implementation of the newly adopted instructional state standards. The team used the work of Lucy Calkins to frame the units. District teachers were provided with the planners, training, but lacked the materials for a complete, efficient implementation. The ELA planners were revised in the spring of 2013 and will be revised again this spring. The need for materials to support an effective implementation remains.
