Position Description

The Applications Engineer provides technical sales expertise to support HarcoSemco’s business development efforts. This includes tailoring solutions, developing technical proposals, costing and quoting of new and existing parts. Leads projects and project teams to introduce new product(s) into production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost data for quotes
  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application
  • Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users
  • Respond to Proposal Requests from customers, conceptualize designs for Sensors, and Electrical Harnesses
  • Work closely with customers to identify technical requirements and propose solutions for customer’s applications
  • Prepare quotations for material, labor, tooling and equipment
  • Create preliminary designs for products, tools and/or test equipment
  • Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process through working with the Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Operations teams to coordinate the activities necessary to release new product on-time and to budget
  • Must excel at working in a team environment
  • Directly communicate with customers in the form of quotations, meetings and presentations to understand and define their needs
  • Manage several projects at one time
  • Up to 25% travel (domestic and international) as necessary.
  • Participate in training as required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident alien, or otherwise able to review all export – controlled technical information.

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the design and use of Sensors and/or Electrical Harnesses in aerospace applications
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes for Sensors, Aircraft Cables/Harnesses
  • Knowledge of electronics, machining and assembly practices, tools and fixturing
  • Must be able to work with customers to define and document requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status
  • Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Project management experience
  • Background in material selection and application, (ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, insulators, potting compounds) a plus

  • None

Qualifications & Experience

  • B. S. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years design engineering experience or practical training is required.
  • 5+ years in Aerospace industry a plus.
  • Aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) cable, wiring harness and/or sensors knowledge a plus.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Some light physical effort required.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift at least 15 lbs.
  • Sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and moving.
  • Manufacturing environment.
