The Task

Your task is to discover as much as you can about the
moon. Try to find as many new and unique facts as possible.

Your task is to:

  • Answer the following questions.
  • Collect some myths from various cultures.
  • Briefly describe Spring and Neap tides as well as Solar and Lunar eclipses.
  • Find graphics of the phases of the moon, tides and the eclipses.
  • Name the 8 phases of the moon.

Let's Begin

To begin your moon Quest, you must read the material at the top of this page, and then answer the questions that will begin your adventure to the moon. Be sure you answer each question completely.

It is now time to research what an eclipse is. Write your findings as an interview of a famous astronomer and make use of posters to explain the phenomenon to your classmates.

It is now time to research the ocean tides. Write a one-page report about this event and include at least one graphic of each of the tides.

Now, find a picture of the phases of the moon, and label the 8 phases. You might have to do a little research to figure this one out. You can use all of the available resources to complete this part of your Moon Quest.

Your final task is to find various myths from the cultures of the world. Collect as many as you can read and compare how they might be the same or different from each other.

Learning Advice

  • To adequately complete your quests of the moon, use all of the available resources. This means that you can use your textbook, library references, on-line resources, etc. You may also use any outside resources that you find.

If you are working with a partner or in a group, you must include a task chart. The task chart shows the name of each person who was responsible for completing the various parts of the project.
