Information about Wrestling Matches
Wrestling Match:
- 3 periods, each period lasting 2 minutes each.
- Each wrestler trying to win by either a fall or decision.
- If tied at the end of 3 periods there will be an overtime period of 1 minute. Wrestler that scores points first wins.
- The first period will always begin with the wrestlers in a Neutral or Standing Position. At least one foot has to be on the Green or Red Line in the Middle of the mat and wresters shake hands
- At the beginning of the second period the Ref will ask a wrestler what choice of Position he wants. Wrestler can choose Top, Bottom, Neutral (Standing) or Defer (Other wrestler has choice).
- At the beginning of the Third period the wrestler who did not choose in the second or deferred his choice will choose Top, Bottom, Neutral (Standing) or Defer (Other wrestler has choice).
- At the end of the match wrestlers will shake hands and the ref will raise the winning wrestlers hand.
Wrestling Gear: Singlet and headgear (knee pads optional)
Individual Match Points
- Takedown = 2 points (One Wrestle takes another Wrestler down and has control)
- Escape = 1 point (Wrestler escapes from the bottom)
- Reversal = 2 points (Wrestler on bottom takes control of his opponent by reversal)
- Near Fall = 2, 3 or 4 points (“Back Points” awarded when one wrestler is trying to pin the other: points are based on how long the opponent’s back is exposed without getting pinned)
Team Points (Based on Individual Match Results)
- Fall or Pin = 6 points
- Forfeit = 6 points (One team has weight class to wrestle and the other team does not)
- Default = 6 points (One team defaults a match to the opposing team due to injury)
- Disqualification = 6 Points (One Wrestler is disqualified because of illegal move harmed another wrestler or un-sportsman like conduct)
- Technical Fall = 5 points (One wrestler wins the match by 15 points or more)
- Major Decision = 4 points (One Wrestler wins the match by 8 – 14 points)
- Decision = 3 points (One wrester wins the match by 7 points or less)
