Kath Hoyer in the Sabden 6 Trail race on Wednesday
Tuesday evening saw the fourth round of this year’s Inter Club Grand Prix hosted by Thornton at Anchorsholme with a 5-mile circuit along the cliff top to Ginn Square and back along the concrete of the Lower Promenade. It was not as hot as last tear but still warm and windy also in a southerly direction. Wesham’s Rob Danson was on form again and led from the start once again to win by 41 seconds in 26:23 just two days after finishing 2nd in the Freckleton Half Marathon. Wesham men were short on the ground this evening, such that Alex Rowe was 2nd counter in 18th place with 30:08 finishing 1st M55. Steve Myerscough was next in 26th place with 30:58, and Peter Cruse 41st in 31:57. Ugis Datavs placed well in 44th with 32:12; John Collier 3rd M60 and 48th in 32:25; Paul Hetherington 56th in 33:01; Catherine Carrdus was the first Wesham woman in 3rd place and 1st W40 with 33:11; John Bertenshaw 70th and 5th M60 in 34:08 with Carmel Sullivan 71st and 5th woman in 34:13, 2nd W40. The senior team placed 4th overall which was a better result than might have been expected with the depleted numbers. However, with Sarah Sherratt 7th woman (93rd in 36:03) and 4th W40; Gemma Owen 8th in 36:09 and NicolaUnsworth 10th and 5th W40 in 36:30 the Wesham women stormed to capture both the Ladies and the W40 team glory with two wins. With Rowe, Myercough, Cruse, Datavs, Collier and Hetherington the Wesham vets placed 3rd with the M50s (Rowe, Cruse, Collier and Bertenshaw) in 2nd place and the M60s (Collier, Bertenshaw and Alan Hudson (8th in 35:23, 84th overall)) also placed 2nd team.
Alex Rowe ran in the Manchester Mile at Sportcity on Wednesday evening, finishing 4th in the sixth heat for senior men in 5:20.92, placing fastest Over-50. The heat was won by ex-Wesham member Karl Lee in 5:09.
There was a big Wesham turnout in the second race in the Lancaster Saturday evening 5km series with it being a club championship race. David Taylor lead the way for the blues finishing 20th with a superb run clocking 17:15 for a new personal best by 9 seconds. Lee Barlow also ran well with a time of 17:44 for 27th place. Troy Watson had a great run in 30th place scoring 18:01. George Kennedy ran a good 20:13 for 49th place just edging out Emma Lund who came in 7th woman and 50th in 20:15. Alan Hudson finished 1st M65 and 54th overall with 20:41, and Gemma Owen was 9th woman and 2nd W35 in 60th place with 21:04. Close behind Sean Murray placed 64th with 21:15; Ryan Azzopardi 66th with 21:28; Sarah Sherratt was 11th woman and 70th in 21:54, 4th W40; Kerry Eccles 16th and 79th with 23:46, 1st W50 and a great run; James Robert Danson 88th with 25:36 and Tanya Barlow 90th with 25:49.
In the second Harrock Hill Race on Wednesday Steve Myerscough finished 48th in 42:51 for the 5.2 miles and 900ft ascent, 9th M40. Sarah Sherratt was 6th woman and 2nd W40 in 46:28, in 81st place overall.
Alan Taylor ran the Appleby Rotary 10k on Sunday, finishing 62nd in a time of 50:25. Chris Moss was 70thwith 51:26; and Paul Carter 76th in 52:55.
Three Wesham members ventured down to Liverpool for the Penny lane Striders 10k on Sunday. Peter Cruse came in 43rd with 40:33 placing 2nd M50. Kath Hoyer was 2nd W55 in 48:54, 163rd overall and 20th woman with a good run. Dave Waywell was 1st M70 and 250th in 54:23.
Kath Hoyer finished 99th in the Sabden 6 Trail race, in 54:10 she was 19th woman and 3rd W55. Steve Myercough ran the White Bear Way at Adlington, a 10 mile route around the Anglesarke Reservoir, which he won in 1:33 having gone a mile off course following the runners in the 21-mile race. He just managed to hold off the second placed runner for the win.
Rob Danson ran the fastest time at the Preston parkrun on Saturday, clocking 16:03 for the hilly 3-lapper and an age graded performance of 80.37%. Robert brown clocked 24:49 for M55 63.53%; Jenny Thompson 27:34 for W35 54.90%; Steven Gore 32:24 as pacemaker. Graham Cunliffe ran 23:42 in the Burnley parkrun for M55 67.65%; Ben Wrigley 27:48 at the tough CuerdenValley for 47.42%. Martin Bates ran Worsley Woods parkrun in 22:05, M55 72.00%; the previous week 22:11 for 71.68%.
