LIFE

Life is a matter of building. Each of us has the opportunity to build some-thing: a secure family, a good reputation, a career, a relationship with God. But some of those things can disappear almost overnight due to financial losses, natural disasters and other unforeseen difficulties. What are we to do?

Daniel Webster offered excellent advice saying, “If we work on marble it will perish. If we work on brass, time will efface it. If we rear temples, they will crumble to dust. But if we work on men’s immortal minds, if we imbue them with high principles, with just fear of God and love of their fellow-men, we en-grave on those tablets something which time cannot efface, and which will brighten and brighten to all eternity.”

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you al-way, even unto the end of the world (Mat. 28:18-20).

And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also (2 Tim. 2:2).

Treating Our Bibles Like Our Cell Phones

I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phones.

 What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

 What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

 What if we flipped through it several times a day?

 What if we used it to receive messages?

 What if we treated it like we could not live without it?

 What if we gave it to kids as gifts?

 What if we used it as we traveled?

 What if we used it in case of an emergency?

 What if we upgraded it to get the latest version?

Does this make you think, “Hmmm. Where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing. Unlike our cell phones, we do not ever have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill!

THANK GOD FOR CHANGE

The story is told of a college professor who visited the islands of Fiji. An atheist, he critically remarked to an elderly chief, "You're a great leader, but it's a pity you've been taken in by those foreign missionary's. They only want to get rich through you. No one believes the Bible anymore. People are tired of the threadbare story of Christ dying on the cross for the sins of all mankind. They know better now. Nobody back in the states takes it seriously. I'm sorry you've been so foolish as to accept their story. If I were you I would just go back to living the way you did before they came."

The old chief's eyes flashed as he answered, "Do you see that rock over there? On it we used to smash the heads of our victims. And there," he said, pointing, "notice the furnace next to the rock? It was that oven that we formerly roasted the bodies of our enemies before we ate them. If it hadn't been for those good missionary's and the love of Jesus that changed us from cannibals to Christians, you'd never leave this place alive! You'd better thank the Lord for change; otherwise, we'd already be feasting on you. If it weren't for the Bible, we'd be having you for dinner!"

Has the gospel brought about an obvious change in you? Do you still live the way you used to before being baptized? Are you still influenced by things of the world? The Bible says in II Timothy 3:16 17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." Are You Lost in the “Woulds?”

I would go to church, but this is my day off…

I would go to church, but I am too busy.

I would go the church, but I am too tired.

I would go to church, but it’s too hot.

I would go the church, but I don’t feel well.

Come out of the “woulds” and attend Bible School and Worship Services.

Philippians 4:12-13 “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
