IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION

City of Angels School (COAS) is the independent study, K – 12, school for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Our highly qualified, credentialed staff provides a unique, supportive, alternative educational opportunity to students. Our curriculum is California standards-based instruction and we offer A-G College Prep courses along with many different elective classes. With the approval of his/her teacher, a student has the opportunity to concurrently enroll in community college. City of Angels High School (grades 9 – 12) is accredited by the Western Association of Schools (WASC). This means that student’s coursework is acceptable for credit within the University of California and California State Schools. Procedure for Students with Special Needs:

1.  Parent/school contacts City of Angels for initial appointment to discuss City of Angels Schools as an educational option for the student. At this appointment, the student may be assessed in math and/or English in addition to a counseling session/discussion about whether the student can meet all 5 guidelines for success at City of Angels Schools. At this meeting, various options within City of Angels Schools will be discussed including placement in one of the academies, specific sites, or areas. This meeting may also include an orientation to City of Angels.

2.  If it is determined through this process that the student will be a good match for City of Angels Schools, the parent and student are directed to see their current school staff about scheduling an IEP meeting for a new placement at City of Angels Schools. In the IEP meeting, City of Angels Schools will be indicated as the recommended educational placement.

3.  Parent and student return to City of Angels with completed paperwork including the new IEP recommending placement at City of Angels. The student is placed at a site, and a teacher is assigned.
