Title: ‘Broken Strings’ & ‘Stronger’

Dimensions & Medium: 2 x (400 x 1500)mm

Acrylic on canvas/String & silicone on frame

Story: This painting was part of my exhibition “It’s Been a Long Time Coming”

I was going through a really rough patch in my life, but with Christ in my life and literally my strength throughout this journey – I became a much stronger person. The first painting ‘Broken Strings’ symbolise my inner-self being confused & all over the show. ‘Stronger’ is strings wrapped around a frame & drops of silicone on string. The frame symbolises Christ – He gives your life structure & together you become one – strong & together. Without this framework the string is nothing, it gets all mangled up.

All the titles were based on titles of songs – (Broken Strings – James Morrison & Nelly Fertado) & the silicone drops on string resembles music notes on paper. Once you have structure & Christ in your life, you have purpose. God can give you your song for life.

Title: Where I want to Be

Dimensions & Medium: 700 x 900mm

Acrylic & mixed media on canvas

Story: When in nature you can feel & see our Father in everything around us. Being in nature on my own, walking or just sitting – listening & when I paint, I feel closest to God. This is my time with Him, to listen, to pray. This painting have a calmness to it & almost feels like I’m there. The tree looks so small against the mountains, but it’s safe there – it’s like us in the hands of God.

Title: Hymn to Her & Secret Moments

Dimensions & Medium: 2 x (800 x 980mm)

Oil on canvas/ Acrylic & mixed media on canvas

Story: This painting was part of my 2nd exhibition –‘Facets’. It’s actually a set of two (I’ve attached the other photo).

The exhibition consists of six realistic faces, each accompanied by an abstract representation of that face.

The associated palette used to mix the paint for each face represents the abstract nature of humans – the emotions that bind us all.

Each palette will be unique, yet may share very similar qualities. But it is the differences in each palette (even though sometimes small) that represent each person’s personality, their own environment and circumstances, their background and culture, and their individual experiences and challenges – all the pieces that shape and form us and create our individual worlds.

These facets of our lives make us who we are. They are ever-changing; therefore we are in constant metamorphosis – we grow incessantly.

As humans we are all unique, yet we share emotions such as love, anger, jealousy, happiness and sadness. Herein lies the link that binds us – in universal emotions, emotions that allow us to communicate without words. We may not comprehend or understand an individual’s unique circumstances, but we can always identify with an emotion.

God created all to be unique individuals & for his children to connect with each other –it’s important to keep your inner self (the abstract palette) beautiful & colourful - To have a pure, healthy and joyous spirit. Our bodies are just vessels. We are always judging people on their looks & actions; instead, we should be looking deeper to have a better understanding of one another.

Title: Sunday

Dimensions & Medium: 700 x 900mm Acrylic & Mixed media on canvas

Story: I just love this painting – once again, it’s nature & God’s creation. The soft sunlight reminds me of a Summer sunset. So peaceful & quiet. I then decided to name it ‘Sunday’ – day of rest & tranquillity. These animals are such peaceful creatures.
