For English Language, there is one final examination 0522/02 taken in May 2016 (exact date to be released in Dec 2015):

Understanding spoken and written texts and writing creatively
Three assignments 500-800 words each
(In most cases, these have already been completed in class and assessed. Opportunities to improve marks will be available after the Jan ’16 Lit exam) / 40% of Language IGCSE
/50 marksin total (reading and writing) / These can be typed and drafted.
Each piece is /40 and then an average is calculated.
Assignment 3 is also marked /10 for reading skills.
Speaking and Listening Test 0522/05
To be performed, recorded and assessed March/April 2016
20% of Language IGCSE
/30 marks
There is no question paper.
Candidates conduct an individual, rehearsed talk on a topic of their choice (3-4 minutes) and take part in a question/answer discussion with the examiner (7-8 minutes).
All candidates are recorded.

IGCSE ENGLISH LITERATURE EDEXCEL KETO Examination

For English Literature there is NO coursework. There are two final examinations– both to be taken in January 2016 (with retake opportunity in June 2016):

Candidates must answer one question on the poetry Anthology that will have been studied in class (they will be given a ‘clean’ anthology for the exam).

Students/parents may also wish to purchase the York Notes Study Guide for their chosen texts: Of Mice and Men and An Inspector Calls. These are extremely useful when revising key themes and characters. They can be purchased through the College, Waterstones or online at Amazon.

The students will also be producing their own revision sheets, for both texts, as part of their revision/homework tasks between now and Christmas. We will be working on these in class too, as part of the revision process before the January exams. There are also a range of revision tasks on the College website that will be updated termly.
