Task description:

Individual Research Task

Conduct a detailed investigation of YOUTH:

In your investigation consider the following areas of study:

PART A

1.  Provide a legal and social definition of youth

2.  Identify the main characteristics that make youth a unique entity

3.  Justify your choice of the three most important specific needs of youth.

4.  Describe two Government policies and regulations that apply specifically to youth and explain why each is important.

5.  Choose three factors that most impact youth’s access to resources and describe how these factors limit or enable access.

6.  Outline any positive and negative societal attitudes towards youth.

7.  Provide examples of positive contributions the group has made to the community.

8.  List 3 rights of the group and the associated responsibilities of each.

9.  Identify a range of community service groups which meet the needs of youth

PART B

1.  Propose three modifications to the social environment of youth and justify how these modifications facilitate the satisfaction of the needs of youth.

2.  Hypothesise about ways of resolving conflict that might exist between the youth’s needs and the expectations of the wider community (e.g. graffiti, loitering, risk-taking driving, violence, vandalism, lack of respect).

3.  Evaluate the extent to which societal structures satisfy the needs of the youth

4.  Critically analyse the equity and other issues of concern faced by youth and formulate management strategies to address these issues
