Goal #1 (supports building/program goal to improve student achievement):

Ensure that students and staff are effective users of information.

 This goal supports building/program goal #_District Goals 1 & 2 and aligns with the Continuum in the following way(s): Aligns with the LIMS role as a Resource-Based Teacher in the Professional Teaching Standards for Library Media Information Specialists.

 Indicators of progress toward goal (include one piece of evidence measuring impact on students; feedback from students/parents is encouraged):

·  More students are able to find materials in the library without asking for help

·  More students and staff use purchased databases to find online information, rather than going to a search engine first

 Specific strategies (at least one strategy per goal must include collegial collaboration):

·  Teach students how to use the Online Patron Access Catalog to identify library books.

·  Ensure that signage and maps are clearly legible.

·  Facilitate staff training on the purchased databases.

·  Use the Edmonds Research Model as a support for teaching students how to evaluate online information and use purchased databases.

·  Attend grade level or subject area meetings to learn about the current information needs of students and staff.

·  Collaborate with a staff member on an authentic research project that students are doing.

Goal #2 (supports building/program goal to improve student achievement):

Ensure that students and staff read, for both pleasure and information.

 This goal supports building/program goal #_District Goals 1 & 2 and aligns with the Continuum in the following way(s): Aligns with the LIMS role as a Resource-Based Teacher in the Professional Teaching Standards for Library Media Information Specialists.

 Indicators of progress toward goal (include one piece of evidence measuring impact on students; feedback from students/parents is encouraged):

·  Daily circulation of library materials is higher in Sspring than it is in Aautumn.

·  [Elementary only] All students have the opportunity to participate in voluntary reading activities, such as the Best Books Club.

·  Library hours include times outside of school hours when students and staff can read or check out books for pleasure.

 Specific strategies (at least one strategy per goal must include collegial collaboration):

·  Display new books around the library.

·  Offer to do booktalks in classrooms, using new books, books which are appropriate for the curriculum being taught, or books of special interest.

·  Remove (weed) books that no longer meet the needs of the students and staff, so that they can find those that do.

·  Collaborate with teachers on a program where students read books and write reviews which can be displayed around the school, in the library or on the school website.

·  Collect purchasing recommendations from both students and staff and purchase as many of the books as meet the selection criteria and budget allows.

·  Set up book clubs for students and/or staff.

·  Leave lightly used magazines in the staff room for free circulation.

·  Talk about books with other staff members.

Goal #3

Become a master Library Media Information Specialist.

 This goal aligns with the Continuum in the following way(s):

·  Progress has been made toward Goal #1 and #2.

 Specific strategies:

·  Attend Edmonds LMS meetings regularly.

·  Actively participate in the library staff portal

·  Join WLMA and attend yearly conference in October.

·  Read highly recommended new books that would be appropriate for school level.

·  Spend time learning how to use the Library Automation System efficiently and effectively.

·  Read articles from professional magazines, such as School Library Journal or Library Media Connection.

·  Become familiar with the school curriculum and where it fits in the district curriculum.

·  Read and understand the School Board Policies that effect libraries, such as the Selection Policy, Surplus Policy, and Copyright Policy.

Proposed plan for Individual Professional Development activities (7 hours, 2 of which are suggested for collegial study related to annual growth goals).

Read Regie Routman’s Reading Essentials and participate in a study group with other Library Media Information Specialists.
