Job Description:

Museum Guides present The President Woodrow Wilson House and the National Trust to the visiting public through guided tours and educational programs to convey a greater understanding of President Woodrow Wilson, his public and private life and ideals for future generations.

This is a part-time, hourly-wage position.

Responsibilities:

  • Guide visitors through the museum in a personable and knowledgeable manner, helping the visitor gain a comprehensive and accurate understanding of Woodrow Wilson’s place in American history.
  • Provide a forum for historical discussion and learning.
  • Provide for the security and safety of museum property and visitors. Open and close the Museum in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct educational programs for visitors of all ages.
  • Assist with special programs, including special events and group tours often held on evenings and weekends.
  • Participate actively in guide training, enhancement programs and meetings.
  • Collect visitor information and admission.
  • Staff the Museum Shop, conducting sales, running a register, end of day reporting and answering the telephone.
  • Assist with the preservation of the museum by reporting any changes in the condition of the artifacts.

Qualifications:

Prior teaching or museum guide experience or exceptional communication skills preferred. Knowledge of Woodrow Wilson and his Presidency, Washington, DC in the pre and post WWI era, Foreign Policy, American Political history or other areas related to the Wilson House mission are desirable. Special consideration will be given to bilingual applicants. Applicants must have working knowledge of computers and basic internet. Home computer internet/email access desirable.Applicant must demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in the workplace.

*Please note: Woodrow Wilson House has three floors and is partly unairconditioned. Applicants should be physically able to conduct tours up and down all three staircases even in warm weather conditions. Parking availability is not guaranteed.
