How to Login to Your Dashboard/Admin

  1. Open Up your web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari).
  2. Type in your Domain Name in the search field at the top of your browser with /wp-admin at the end (e.g. www.yourdomainname.com.au/wp-admin) .
  3. You will then be directed to a page that looks similar to the one below.

  1. Enter your login details (username , password) and click Log In.
  2. Once you have logged in you will be welcomed with the Dashboard Screen.

  1. You are now logged into your Dashboard.

How to create a new page

1.  On the left hand side of your Dashboard you will have a list of navigation tabs called the dashboard panel. Find the One that says Pages and click on the arrow to the right of it.

2.  Click on Add New

3.  The page will then show the following

4.  If this is the first time logging into your admin site you will need to know a bit about the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor. Look below for a detailed screenshot on what each item does.

5.  On the right hand side you have settings for you page.

6.  You now have to activate the page to be displayed on the website. Under the My Theme tab on the dashboard panel click Settings

7.  You will then come to a page similar to below. Tick the boxes for the pages you want published and then click save options down the bottom.

How to edit pages

1.  To edit your pages click on the left hand side where it says Pages then click Edit

2.  You will come to a screen that looks similar to the one below

3.  On the right side of the screen you will see the page names (e.g. About). Click on the page name you want to edit.

4.  You will then be able to edit your pages.

Adding Images to your Page

  1. At the edit page screen (shown below) Click on the icon that is circled.

  1. You will be prompted to look for a file either on your computer or in your media library if you have already uploaded on previously.

How to add users

1.  On the dashboard panel towards the bottom you will see Users, click the tab and then press Add New.

2.  Fill in the details for the new user, and pick the role of the person then press Add User e.g. Admin, Subscriber.

Uploading images

1.  Click on the Media Tab on the Dashboard Panel then click Add New.

2.  Once the page has loaded click on Select Files.

3.  An upload box will appear. Search for your file / image you want to upload.

4.  You will see the following when uploading.

5.  When it has finished uploading you will see details about the image and some other information, which I will run through now.

6.  The main parts of the image details screen that we will look at is the Title, Description, File URL.

  1. TITLE: The title is just what the picture is of. In this case it’s a “group of business colleagues working on a laptop”
  2. DESCRIPTION: This is what will be displayed when you put your mouse over the image once the image is placed in your website.
  3. FILE URL: This is the URL where the image is placed on the server. You will need to know this for the below steps.

Adding Images to your widgets.

For Widget Logic Follow these Steps.

For the Simple Image Widget “CTRL” Click Here

1.  On the Dashboard Panel click on the Appearance tab then Widgets

2.  You will come to a page that looks similar to below.

3.  On the right hand side of the page you will see tabs called Sidebar1, top, left etc:

4.  Click on the down arrow shown below

5.  Drag and drop the Image Widget or if you don’t see that drag and drop the Simple Image widget from the Available widget on the left into the right hand side like I have done above.

6.  The Image widget and the Simple image widget are a bit different so I will run through both.

Image Widget

a.  Once you have dragged and dropped the Image widget from the Available widgets to the sidebar click on the arrow that you see below.

  1. You will see the following:
  1. The main item you need to look at is the ADD IMAGE function. Click this and you should see the Upload screen again (as a popup)
  2. You can either choose to select files from your computer or select from your media library if you have already uploaded your images through the Media Tab.
  3. Go ahead and choose either one. For this tutorial Im going to choose Media Library since I have already uploaded an image previously.
  4. Once you have uploaded an image or chosen one from your media library you will see the following.
  1. If you select the same setting as I have here you shouldn’t have any problems.
  2. Alignment = None
  3. Size = Medium 300 x 199

h.  Next Click Insert Into Widget

  1. You will now see that the image has been inserted into the sidebar.
  1. All you have to do at this stage is set a Title for the Image or you can leave blank, as the title will show up in the Widget. For the Widget Logic you will have to put the name of the page you would like to insert the image into. (E.G. if you would like it on your Homepage you will need to find out what your homepage is called usually either HOME or Home. If you don’t know you can always check by looking what is in your navigation on your website or simply going to the Pages tab and clicking EDIT.
    You will then have to type the following in your Widget Logic. is_page(‘Home’) See Image Below)
  1. All you have to do now is click Save and check out your page.

If everything has gone to plan you should now see the following. (You can also see the title above the image; you can delete that within the Image widget as described above)

Simple Image Widget

Once you have dragged and dropped the Simple Image Widget from the Available widgets to the sidebar click on the down arrow for that widget. You will see the following:

1.  For this Image Widget you will need to know the URL of the image, which you can find when you upload your image through the Media Library.

2.  You will need to copy and paste this into where it says Image URL:

3.  Alternate Text: is for when the image cannot be found or for people with images function turned off. This text will be displayed instead of the image.

  1. For the Widget Logic you will have to put the name of the page you would like to insert the image into. (E.G. if you would like it on your Homepage you will need to find out what your homepage is called usually either HOME or Home. If you don’t know you can always check by looking what is in your navigation on your website or simply going to the Pages tab and clicking EDIT.
    You will then have to type the following in your Widget Logic. is_page(‘Home’) See Image Below)

NOTE: That anything within the (‘ ‘) is all case sensitive.

Click Save and check your page out.

Featured Images / Auto Scrolling

This section applies to you if you have a part in your website where images are self scrolling.

To change / update images in your website that are self scrolling either in your banner or somewhere on you website follow the below steps

  1. Click on Featured Images on the left hand side under My Theme option.
  2. You will then come to a screen with your images above and below them will have something similar to the image below.
  1. Your images will have to be the same size as noted in our example 360x240 pixels.
  2. Click browse to find an image on your computer
  3. Click Add Image to add it to the list.

NOTE: There is a free online image resizing that is easy to use. Ctrl+Click Here to go to the website
